Weekly Accountability Thread: June 16th edition

Filling in for @Dr_Tigerchik.
Did you meet your goals for last week?
What are your goals for this week?

433
15/15 June

met the “be at 433” goal
440 is the goal next week!

Patrick: I loved swimming at Walden. I would bike on over from where I lived in Back Bay, swim, and bike back. Towards the end of my stay in Boston (1989) the governor made it illegal (some people sank there), so we had to go to the least accessible end to swim. I assume that’s been fixed.

Scheherazade: Sound like it’s going great on the portfolio and the certification. Good luck.

DrTC: I hope things are getting better. Let us know more details about the recovery (good and bad) if you feel like it.

I’m finally able to start chasing goals aggressively.
I’ve been having problems with health insurance coverage (the family is on 3 separate plans; I’ve had about 6 different go-arounds with the youngest 4 kids, 9 go-arounds with my wife and the 2 eldest, and about 7 times with my Medicare coverage, starting last July and (apparently) finally resolved a couple of weeks ago. (My entire trans-con was without coverage for doctors.)

So I can finally be more aggressive with training, and can also focus better.
To that end, here are some objectives:
(1a) Run/walk 1 hr/day (knees have been bothering me AFTER the trans-con)
(1b) Get comfortable biking 2 hrs straight by the end of the week (slow speed if needed, but strengthening the neck and back)
(1c) Swim at least 4 times (The new coach of the kids’ swim team swam the channel and said they could work with me, so I hope I can get some tips, including dealing with cold water and sighting) (I’ve had hypothermia in over 20 triathlons, although I haven’t done any since getting my “insulation”.)
(2) Do academic study about 4 hrs/day (currently focusing on 2 things in physics, 2 in abstract math, and 1 in applied.)
(3) Practice at least 1 hr of violin/day (This last week I’ve developed a plan.)
(4) Keep my “time-wasting” activities (Youtube/Sudoku) down to 1.5 hrs/day

By getting this out there I hope it helps me stay on track… (That’s the whole purpose of this thread, right?)

Afternote: …and now my Machiavellian cat has peed on my swim bag. Maybe I’ll make her come swimming with me!

EMGs mon showed no improvement L ulnar nerve, R back to normal

explains symptoms on L but not on R

devastated at no improvement

improvement can take “a year or two”

again, devastated

MRIs later this month on both forearms

SO tired of pain and disbility. Low bilateral arm use makes life SO HARD. I wake up and just wish the day over; the days are so long. And there’s an endless series of drs appts which is no fun, is tiring. Just so over all of this.

did I mention devastated at potential for permanent nerve damage if L doesn’t improve (that surgery was 1/24. R was 4/4)

435 days in a row healthy coping

Sorry you’re going through all that. I’m OK if you need to vent sometimes. I know it can be hard at times; I have felt like I would be a burden when in that type of situation. But we’re friends here, so we’ll help out as best we can.

Yesterday I did as well as possible, but mostly (in terms of goals) a failure, as I was needed for a lot of family things. (Lots of driving.) At least I re-did my swimming bag and didn’t waste too much time.
