Weekly Accountability Thread: Dec. 15 Edition

How are you? How was your week?

My goals were 0 days of use of a particular unhealthy coping mechanism. I had 6 days without it. Not thrilled but an improvement.

Other goal was to journal each day, which I did

goals this week:

I have 2 days in a row without the unhealthy coping mechanism. Goal is use it 0 times and be at 9 days next week.

Journal daily

Great job at improving, Allison.

I converted into a couch potato over the weekend (no exercise or PT), with the (lame) excuse that the weather was horrid on Sunday (sleet midnight-7am), with sub-freezing temps ever since resulting in frozen ice sheets around here. (The car doors are still frozen shut.) Ate more than an “eating” day on Saturday (although not more than maintenance for current weight), and had a 900-calorie “diet” day yesterday. Weight loss is definitely “real” now. A bunch of time spent on academics, although not very useful since I didn’t stick to the plan. Shoulder is starting to feel better.

Goals for the week:

Continue diet with at least 2 diet days (ideally 3) in this week. (Today’s an “eating” day.) Continue the PT, as well as neck bridges and other strengthening exercises. Get all the exercise in (usually walking) that’s in the plan. Continue academics, but STICKING TO THE PLAN. (Get 2 of my review courses from 1/2 to 3/4 finished.) Continue with errands, house clean-up/organization, and prep for Christmas. (As well as celebrate Hanukkah. Our family is a mix.)

super anxious today. I can get through the day with healthy skills. Tomorrow me will be very glad I did.

Last bit of training was last Monday (swim), a Christmas works party on Thursday and 2 days of travel later to -2c temps. I need some exercise…

Wife “Why don’t you relax…” LOL

Got a gym pass for the local gym. Back at it in the morning.

A decent start to the week although Monday was not quite to plan. I was planning on adding an extra kayak session to the week with a short one Monday as well as a run but didn’t get a chance. I had a tight back so got some work done on that. I did still do a decent steep hilly hour of trail running. Also skipped my usual little weight session.

Good session on the mountain bike Tuesday about 75 mins. Weights done. Back was better.

Out for a very slow hour run on the trails this morning. Already mid 30s C and felt pretty cooked. I was going to pick off a fast 1500 on the road at the end. Couldn’t muster it so just a few quick 100s. Gonna be 37 to 38 C today and 40 plus tomorrow. I can get out early on the bike tomorrow as I am not required to do the grandson school run.

Keeping it simple.

Here is my coach Wally B. keeping tabs on me during my run.

Taking some time off from training, I’ve got a couple more runs this year but just fun ones not structured, and I’ll probably hit the gym a little at work.

We went skiing last weekend and it felt great. A buddy and I were doing some form drills and I picked up a couple little things I’ve done wrong for years

Oh and still doing planks after they came up on here a couple weeks ago.

Not a great beginning to this week. I’ll need to modify some things.

Diet+exercise: PT all days (good); Mon (eating day): went ~200 cals over and 1 mile short of goal; Tue (diet day): 600 cals (but 90g protein) & 20 miles (good); but today feeling a little dizzy, so I’ll have to back off the plan a bit. I’ve lost about 7 lbs. in the last month. Still 16 to go before I can start training for speed without getting injured.

Some errands done. Academically, Monday was just spinning wheels and Tuesday was muddling my way (only partly) through a poorly worded set of notes done by a prof. at the local uni.

4 days in a row!

Got in a run for the fun of it this evening. No training intent, just going fast(ish). I’m within the last 20 miles of my running Strava goal now and will knock off another 10 over the weekend.

Getting back on the TT bike tomorrow for a moderate trainer ride, still playing with position a bit. Messing around with the MTB, getting it fixed up to do some riding in the spring.

Holding steady here.

I’ve been backing off the diet plan a bit since I didn’t feel too good 2 days ago. Went a little over maintenance (with no dedicated exercise) 2 days ago, then diet yesterday with about 1100 cals and only 6 miles.

PT and errands done each day;

For academics I’ve switched from the notes I’ve been studying to a book that covers the same material that’s more advanced (Zill) and explains the material better. (And it’s been on my “future” reading list, so no spinning wheels.) (Allison: Someone said to do all 5000 problems. It sounds like overkill. What do you suggest? Do you recognize the book? And great going!)

Met a really cool guy at PT who went to my alma mater. He’s a physicist who’s retired from Goddard (Space Flight Center) and got to go to Oslo when the head of his group won the physics Nobel a number of years back. Great conversation about physics!

used the unhealthy skill Wed, got back on track yesterday

3/4 week days without unhealthy skill

4/4 journal

I started to use the unhealthy coping skill last night but stopped myself after comparatively less ‘use’ than other times so that’s progress.
