Wearing socks going out of T1 tips/suggestions?

There was a previous thread about sock or no sock for the run but how about on the bike? My entry level Shimano tri shoes are a bit larger so I need socks to keep them snug but the issue is changing into socks out of the swim eats up a lot of time I’m wondering what folks here do to address that issue? I have a towel for drying my feet but its still hard to get them on.

Get tri shoes that fit barefoot?

I wear socks out of T1 with my shoes clipped in as well. I have found that low profile socks (ones that are just visible with a shoe on) work best. I fold them inside out half way down, so the only part of my foot I’m putting in the sock is my toes and then pull the rest of the sock over your foot. I also don’t worry about get my feet that dry, more concerned with getting debris off my foot.

Before the race I prep them by turning them inside out and putting talc/baby powder inside. the i turn them back and roll them (for lack of a better example, like a condom). I quickly towel my feet and then roll them over my feet.

Put them on when setting up transition then roll them off so it looks like a condom. Roll them on you feet in T1 like getting ready to use a condom.

All good advice, but no doubt get shoes that fit. Wet feet post swim with sand or other transition area crap are always on your feet and your socks will just hold them in place…that is after you waste the time getting them on. Outside of half and full IM I dont bother with socks on the bike.

But once you ride and your feet dry, the rocks, sand etc fall off and then if you have to put on socks its a breeze and takes like 5 seconds more for a lot more comfort.

Hope that helps.

How big are these shoes? Have you tried adding an extra insole, or replacing with a thicker one?
Another idea someone recently posted ,was to take a sock and cover the insole with it, giving you a sock liner on the bottom only of the shoe… It may have been in the thread about sock vs no-sock on the run …

That would be rather uncomfortable having a sock on the bottom, btw I have a Shimano TR31 that was a size 45 (mens 10.5). I wasn’t sure how to purchase these shoes in the beginning (I wear size 11 running shoes) so i decide to play it safe and get something in between a 10 and 11.

look in this thread, post #22 where he creates a sock-lined/covered insole. Reduces the volume of the shoe so your foot fits better, and no need to spend time in T1 putting on socks… an idea anyways…

Another vote to roll them. Easy and fast.

In T1 slip them onto your toes and unroll them onto your feet. It’s fast. No more than a couple of seconds.
