Am I missing something? I noticed this in my first race and i still see it to this day. Perhaps I am not clued in to how to wear the race belt. Why do people wear it below their ass. What is the point? Am I supposed to wear it this way?
People say it’s for comfort, but personally I think it’s because they want to look cool, as some pros wear it super low.
If I don’t wear it on my ass it rides up to my moobs. Also I look super pro when wearing it on my ass, so there is that.
They look like dorks. Plus some of them have no hips and must have a piece of velcro on the belt to keep it from falling all the way down and causing them to face plant in front of the cameras. That would be fun to watch.
You must have an interesting body, if it rides up to your boobs if you don’t wear it below the ass… Tucking the back of your race belt into the back of your shorts solves this problem
I started doing it a few years ago because mine kept riding up and I got sick of pushing it back down. Prob started because I saw someone else do it. Seems to work for me. And I’m doing tris so I obviously don’t care what people think about my attire. Ha
If you are wearing a two piece kit it is possible the belt can rub if you have any midriff showing. Personally, when I used to wear two piece kits I would wear it lower to ensure it didn’t rub and I didn’t add to the scars I got from it happening at prior races.
Body glide didn’t seem to help the problem either.
I had the same question during my first race. Albeit, I have enough gut still that it can’t ride up to the moobal region yet. The 6-pack/moob look must be curious though…

That’s exactly why I wore it low when I used a two piece.
What I did was leave the belt really loose so it would go down to the top of my hips and just stay there. I wouldn’t have to push it down, gravity kept it there.
Haven’t you seen the way young people dress these days? Everything’s down around their asses. They’re just trying to keep triathlon in the modern day of fashion.
I wear mine this way. It keeps the band from riding up. I find it incredibility comfortable and I forget I have a belt on.
Same here. As a skinny guy, the only thing I have to keep the belt from riding up high is butt cheek.
“tool” belt style.
Do you have a picture of this?
Meh I shove it on in T2 and don’t care where it is.
Also since I’m always losing them and refuse to spend $$ on one, my race belt is generally elastic laces.

You mean like this?
Personally, I don’t have a problem with that.

Cut the elastic waist band off the top of some underwear. Most comfortable race belt I’ve ever worn.
I wear it low because of a matter of comfort. If it is on my hips - over the course of the run it will ride up and swing to the inside bringing the pouch right in front - and I personally find that extremely irritating and annoying. So i would end up constantly turning the pouch to the left or the right to get it out of the way. But just turning doesnt do any good because the motion of the legs will swing it back in to the center.
The only way I can guarantee that the pouch will stay on one side is if the belt is a little lower so the pouch and the belt gets “caught” below the hip bones and holds it in place. Hence - wearing it low.

I haven’t seen the “epidemic” of too low race belts described in the thread so at first I Was a little confused but then maybe recall a few ads where i thought the athlete in them was wearing it funny.
Personally Mine is just a race belt with nothing on it but I do have a nathan water bottle holder/pouch I bought for some runs on the canal, used it once and ended up turning around to put it in my car since it kept doing as you described. Again thinking back on the ads I have seen the pros I can recall with them low had belts with nutrition on them… so the low might be functional like in your case, makes sense now and might try that nathan thing again.
Yup. Looking like a dork. It’s like certain kind of people who likes sagging and showing their Sponge Bob underwear.
