Rasputitsa, the mud season event that I adored every second of, is coming back from a production hiatus. But it’s not the traditional ride that people have come to expect — but it will continue to be a celebration of hope and community.
Rasputitsa co-founder Anthony Moccia has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, which has spread to his brain and lungs. As he battles cancer, event organizers have come up with dueling events for March 29th, 2025 in his honor, inspired by his favorite band, Queen.
A Day at the Races will be a no-cost, virtual celebration of simply moving your body in a way that inspires you. Examples listed by organizers include riding, hiking, skiing, or running. “We aren’t asking you to register for anything, and we aren’t organizing anything. What we are doing is asking our community to show up—for each other, for loved ones who are fighting to live,” says the website.
Instead, share whatever movement you did on social media with the hashtag #ADayAtTheRaces. “It’s about what Rasputitsa has always stood for: Community, Freedom, Unity.”
Meanwhile, A Night at the Opera is the fundraising component of the day, with all proceeds going to Moccia’s family as he battles cancer. A Night at the Opera will be hosted at Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont, and is a benefit concert performed by the Queen Tribute Band. Tickets are $106 ($100, plus $6 sales tax) and available now.
