So, lemme get this straight . . . We find ourselves militarily committed in the Middle East because of our oil dependence, and we’re about to sell Unocal to the Chinese?
Yeah. I don’t get it either.
I also don’t get it. Interesting is that all the big western oil companies started as oil producers … Now they produce much less, they just buy from everywhere they can find it to refine and sell … That’s all the Chinese companies have ever really done … So maybe it doesn’t matter? I dunno.
I don’t see the confusion.
Who is “we?”
AFAIK, Unocal is privately owned and they can sell out to whoever they want to.

Nope HITLERBUSH’s buddies who control HITLERBUSH own it and they are selling it with the blood of our soldiers as thier currency.

And if they want to drill in my front yard, the government will just seize my property and give it to them, right? ![]()
Seriously, I think you know it isn’t that simple with a company like Unocal, what with the security matters involved, and all. Which is why the government (the president, I think, specifically) has the authority to nix the deal. Unfortunately, Bush appears to see no problem with this deal.
How about this for the sick interpretation:
The sale will be completed. The US and China are in the process of dividing up the planet by resources. How’s that you ask? Unocal’s leases are mostly in China’s front yard, Indonesia. US gets to fight india and chinese surrogates for the middle east and gets the hole cards of No. America–Mexico through ANWR.
Don’t forget South America, while you’re at it. Momentum seems to favor the Chinese in that area right now.
Then HITLERBUSH will rule the world!!!
I am not so sure about that. I think the Brazillians are taking strategic advantage of chinese overtures similar to africa in the cold war. Ultimately, I think they have their own visions (delusions) of grandur.
Nope. HITLERBUSH will not allow visions of grandur.

LOS ANGELES - Unocal’s board of directors Tuesday recommended that its shareholders accept a last-minute, $17 billion merger bid from Chevron, rejecting a higher offer from China’s third-largest oil company.
Best news of the week, if you ask me.
