Way OT -- need a Wii

Yes, I’m so dumb. I actually researched the subject and decided it was a good time to invest in NTDOY. It’s up only 40% in 3 months. Stupid me.

But since Nintendo is not increasing the cost, and the lack of availability might drive people to an Xbox. How is this herd mentality or something greed based by the corporation? Heck if I could see one, and they were available I might get one for my kids, heard that new controller can get you off your seat and get some exercise.

OMG, are you serious?

You tell me what is magically causing this Wii shortage which just happens to be in December? Do you think the Japanese ran out of electronic components?

I can assure you that the Nintendo execs are sophisticated enough to predict within 2% what the demand for thier product will be. I can also assure you that there isn’t a plastic shortage in the world.

Hey, you are giving Nintendo free advertising as we speak. And you honestly never considered the xbox360 as an alternative, now did you?

Nobody called you dumb or stupid

My parents just bought one for my nephews at a small local computer/gaming store. They just called the guy and asked when he was getting shipments. It took a little work (daily calls), but eventually he told them 3 were coming in between 11 and 1 via UPS. Folks went in at 11 and picked one up. I think the smaller stores are better than the big stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc…) for something like this.

That being said, I searched all morning for a pink Nintendo DS for my daughter and found out online that my new local SuperTarget had them in stock. I love the big store websites that show local store availability.

Good luck with your search.

It’s a new console; new parts; new tooling. I assume that they have been working hard to have as many available as possible. They don’t make any more money when people sleep out for days to get one, and then flip them on eBay.

I would argue that it’s the news that drives the herd mentality. Come Nov. they start doing segments on predicting what the hot new toy for this Christmas is going to be. Guess what, if they start talking about the new Tickle Me Elmo, it starts driving demand, and in a self fulfilling prophecy, it’s the hot toy of the season.

Oh my. Please tell me you don’t believe everything you just wrote. When was the last Nintendo box released? I was probably at least 2 to 5 years ago. You honestly don’t think they have all the bugs worked out in their manufacturing facility? Somebody told us there would be a huge wave on the 15th. Well, all of your “needs” will be magically cured at this time. Come March, when your kids are sick of playing their games, and the next big thing comes out, these same Wii boxes will be on sale for $150. Do you honestly think Nintendo hasn’t overpriced their boxes. And they don’t care if Alice Webster is sleeping out in a parking lot to buy up the supply so she can “flip” them on eBay. Alice makes a $50 margin, Corp Nintendo makes a $200 margin. Everyone is happy.

Word of mouth advertising is, by far, the most powerful kind of marketing. Plus, it’s 100% free.

Sorry, I forgot not everyone here is American. You see in America in late December we celebrate well lets not talk about what it is really a celebration of, but any how lots of people spend way to much on gifts for others and there children. It is the shopping season for many retailers. So manufactures try to seize on this by timing the release of their hot new products with this buying season. Unfortunetly some companies run into development/production issues and completly miss the boat (A small company in Redmond Washington this year managed that one), others make the timing but can not produce enough products do to technology limitations (Sony), others fall into the enviable position of. having a greater demand than expected (Nintendo) now they think they can recover by Christmas but it will be close. At other times sales of a product just blew through sales projection and the company missed the boat and months latter demand tapered off. (Cabbage Patch Kids, Tickle me Elmo).

Thats the long answer as to why manufactures time the late November, early December product release.

My eldest was admitted to Mensa as a 9-year-old.

So wait, you think Nintendo completed the design of the Wii months ago, worked out their parts production and supply from 3rd parties already, and COULD deliver a billion units if they felt like it, but figured that they would sell more by having fewer available?

Retailers can’t sell what they don’t have. Like someone mentioned, the big winner might be Micro$oft, because they had the Xbox 360 out already, and Sony and Nintendo screwed up.

Don’t take this the wrong way but, where do you get your information? These corporations are so f’n sophisticated it would blow your mind. They have thousands of brilliant analysts who do nothing but take consumer’s temperatures day in and day out. They have database mining software that tells them what brand of cigarettes you buy when you pick up your toddlers huggies. There is a reason the beer is in the back of the convenience store – you have to walk by the chips and pretzels to get there.

No, there were no development and production issues. Sorry. If you were a foreman at one of Nintendo’s 100 production facilities and you missed a single shipment, you wouldn’t have a job. But this is impossible since most of the planning and procurement at these places are handled by computers.

And I’m sorry to hear about the corporate holiday you Americans call Christmas.

All Corporations are evil, aren’t they?

You think they didn’t have the designs and production worked out months ago? You think some guy at Nintendo woke up October 1 and decided he better make some game boxes? And it is just coincidence they muck it up year after year? The poor muthas at Fisher & Price were unfortunate to fall prey to poor planning with both releases of their Tickle Me dolls. Boy, are their faces red!

No, I don’t think Nintendo had this all worked out months ago. They had this worked out years ago.

All Corporations are evil, aren’t they?
No, but they are made up of some people who are. Corrupt is a better word than evil

I’m pretty sure you have no clue regarding the profile of many–perhaps most–corporations. A significant proportion of “corporations” are small businesses, considered sub chapter S corporations, and they provide millions of jobs to hard-working, deserving people.

That is nothing, come January 1 there is going to be 86 billion units coming out. Yes, the strategy is going just as planned. Thank God the masses are complying and doing just as they are told.

Thanks, Picasso. You’re a genius. You’ve spotted a link between Christmas and commercialism. And you’re smarter than the rest of us because you delivered the message in a “Dr. Evil-talking-to-a-third-person-who-isn’t-really-there” voice. Congratulations. Mensa awaits.

I still don’t understand why you think Nintendo (and Sony) intentionally under-delivered on their products. If several hundred thousand, or more people want, and are willing, to buy their product, why not deliver the product? Why force them to buy a competitor? Do you think fewer people would buy them if there were truck loads of them sitting at the stores?

We are talking about a specific corporation here. And like any inanimate object, corporations are nothing but shells. Your statement is about as brilliant as you saying your car has a personality. Hey, my car provides rides to millions of deserving people. Yeah, pure brilliance. Don’t assume you know anything about my background.

If anything, it’s in their best interests to have as many systems available as possible for the holiday season. Most of their profit is derived from software sales, and in the case of the PS3 they actually lose money from selling the hardware. More systems in the hands of consumers means greater potential software sales aka profit.

Wow you have issues, and Glad you know where the beer is enjoy it. Don’t smoke, never bought my kids Huggies. And I am fairly sure Nintendo does not have thousands of people working in Market research. And if they could they would love to have a million units land in stores tomorrow.

But I will never change your mind and I doubt you will be able change mine.

Nintendo may in fact be instep with their original roll out plan, since they do say they will have hundreds of thousands of machines state side before Christmas.

However, Sony did not. They missed big and are going to be paying for it for along time.

Does Nintendo makes its owns games?
