Waterproof MP3 Suggestions

I’m considering getting a wateproof MP3 for the pool for when I get my long swims in on the weekend and have pretty much decided on the Waterfi Ipod Shuffle. The only negative I have found in the reviews are that people who bought say the headphones have crapped out on them. So does anyone who uses a MP3 player when they swim have a headphone they like? I’m still open to other players too if anyone has suggestions.

I read quite a few reviews before buying a Waterfi Shuffle. I haven’t used it a huge amount, but not had any issues. The reviews mainly said the earphones were critical, and some fell out really easily, however I’ve had no issues with mine being kept in place under a swim cap.

Makes pool swims a lot less tedious

Cheers, Rich

I have a NU Dolphin and I really like it. It’s small and easy to use without looking at the screen. I have used it for 2 years and the headphones are just starting to rust out on me. Replacements aren’t very expensive. If I purchased another swimp3 player, I might try one of the bone conductor versions as the headphones can be a pain at times.

I’ve had a Waterfi Shuffle for about 1.5 years now and no issues.

There seem to be a lot of companies now that are waterproofing shuffles, I’d imagine the process is the same if not very similar between them, so just pick one. I think finding a good pair of waterproof earbuds is a lot harder than finding a good waterproof MP3 player these days.

How freaking hard is it to make waterproof headphones with a short cord. Have you ever seen anyone swimming at the pool with an MP3 player strapped to their waist? No, it’s on their head, because they’re not retarded.

Yet most waterproof headphone manufacturers apparently are. Swimbuds makes a short cord set which I currently have, last I checked Underwater Audio and the other bigger names didn’t, but perhaps times have changed.

The speedo headphones have a short lead and stay put in my ears. I found them sold separately on the linked website in the past but they seem to be out of stock at the moment.

I received a waterfi shuffle for Christmas last year and swim with it at least once a week with no issues. It’s actually nice to not be deafened by the sound of bubbles, instead I’m deafened by my choice of music

I have the waterproof shuffle. It’s great. I use the short cord white earphones so there isn’t extra cord to deal with. It’s great.

I have been using the h20audio interval model, which holds a shuffle, for the last 3 years. It holds the shuffle that is similar to a pack of stick gun. Not sure what generation that is. It has never given me problems. I swim at least 3 days a week with it. It is a great piece of gear in my opinion, and when it breaks I will be buying another one.

Get one of the waterproofed shuffles (they rock). For headphones, take ant pair of waterproof earbuds (I use some H2O Audios), and swap out some TYR earplugs (see below) for the stock tips (they will fit). If any water get into your ear canal the music cuts out, so you need a good seal.

I use the Sony NWZ-W273 for running and swimming. I can highly recommend it.

I’ve been using this ipod for a couple weeks now. So far, so good. Very responsive customer service.

I got these headphones from Amazon for $10. So far they’re performing better than the H2O Audio headphones I used to have (and at a fraction of the cost)

I like this idea. I know these have a “hollow stem.” Is that enough to conduct the sound or do you need to puncture/cut a little hole in the tip end that goes into your ear?

I have the H2O Audio system and like it. Earbud are not the best but it does make a long swim seem way shorter!

What does it sound like in the pool? I had last years model, and am looking forward to trying those but they aren’t available in the states for another few weeks I think.

I started with an H20Audio case for Ipod and when that started leaking, switched to SwiMP3. Bone conduction works great, particularly with earplugs in. I am on my second SwiMP3 after wearing out the first one over 4 years (2-3x/wk).

In my opinion, SwiMP3 couldn’t be easier or more durable.

H2O Audio shuffle case. Simple but awesome design. Works with visor and clips on goggle straps.

That’s the great thing, the sound conducts right through, so the system stays sealed.

Thanks. Going to try that next swim. I actually have a pair of those plugs in my bag. That ear seal has always been the one consistent problem for me.

Agree with the H2O shuffle case - I used one regularly 3-5 hrs / week for 6 mo last year with no issues
