Waterproof Ipod?

Has anyone used a waterproof ipod? Any recommendations where to get one?

I would prefer ipod branded, as most of my music is in Itunes.

Found this site back when I was looking at waterproof tunes: http://www.swimman.com/. A fully waterproof’d shuffle, no external case needed.

I have had mine for 6 months and it is still going strong, I would highly recommend these guys.

I can tell you that the IPod nano is in no way water proof or resistant. I used a video nano for about 6 rides before it shit the bed. I had it on the bars of my bike. It got a fair amount of sweat on it. When it died I took it to the Gunies Bar for a replacement. They looked in the headphone jack and said the moisture indicator is positive for exposure to water. Sorry no warranty. For the record I used a Samsung XM Mp3 player for a year and a half and exposed it to gallons of sweat and drool in the same spot. It never gave me a single problem. I will never buy another IPod.

Hmmm hope its not too late to add to my christmas list!

Also I’ve had my Nano (first gen) for at least 2 years now and I run with it constantly and the band gets drenched with sweat i’ve actually had moisture build up under the screen at times, its always dried off and aside from the wheel being touchy when its sweaty its never given me a problem. Lame yours crapped out on you

I put my ipod into an otterbox and it stays perfectly dry
.

I don’t know how they do it, but I use my Ipod nano all the time when I swim. I called there customer service directly, after 5 hours of voice commands, and they assured me it would be ok. (I was looking for a water proof casing.) The lady on the other end of the line let me on in a little secret. I didn’t need one! She said in testing they have to make sure their products seal holds up to the every day water encounter… sink drop, rain store, sweat during activity, etc… She proceded to go into how all the other accessories were for marketing purposes. blah blah Therefore, I have been using the nano straight out of the box during my swims. Like I said, 6 months and counting!!!

Which generation/version of the nano do you have?

Tagging on this…for those of you who DO swim with your mp3 player, what headphones do you use?

I have a Freestyle Audio waterproof MP3 player, and the phones it came with are fine for Aquajogging. But when I try to swim in them, esp. wearing a swim cap, they come out of my ears or fill with water and I can’t hear jack.

Freezer ZipLock bag.
Poke ear phone jack through and seal the hole with silicone.
Put a dry paper towel in the bag (to collect moisture).
Close bag.
$.25 Enjoy.

I’ve used the Otterbox for my iPod Nano with some waterproff earbuds.

The only bad part is you must wear a swim cap to keep the buds in. So, my head overheats on long swims. Other than that the Otterbox works great.

I’ve been using the H2O Audio for about a year. I have had no problems with leakage yet and it’s really great to have music in the pool.

I have been using their headphones as well. The sound quality is about what you’d expect underwater but the silicone cones help quite a bit.

Used an H2O Audio ipod mini case for over a year and then got tired of trying to keep the earbuds in my ears and the amount of drag caused by the swim belt or armband. I switched over to the SwiMP3 (2nd generation) and have been ecstatic. No earbuds, no belt - it just clips to the straps of my goggles. Not sure how I did it, but I managed to get the software to convert all my Itunes songs over to their system, so I can choose from any of my Ipod collection and download to the SwiMP3. So far, worth every penny of the $175 I paid and doesn’t run the risk of fritzing my Ipod nano. SwiMP3 is the one device that keeps me from turning into a duathlete.

I have an H2O Audio set for the 1st gen nano, with waist belt and headphones that I’ll sell you if you’re interested. I used it for a few months last summer and the novelty just wore off for me. I have a hard enough time keeping track of laps without getting lost in music!

I swim with my iPod Swimman. Never had a problem it makes swimming way less boring. I swim with the Swimman earphones and have tried all kinds of earphones but the trick with all is put a little neosporin on the earphones an they stay in like a champ. That trick was on the Swimman website.

I would imagine I could subsitute aquaphor or the like for neosporin, right?

Sorry, I didn’t realize that you were looking to waterproof for the pool

Bought a otterbox worked great for 2nd gen ipod but speaker quality is not great. Plus do not try with a 1st gen ipod if not made for it. I found out the hard way.
