After my last race I was really dissatisfied with the performance of my water bottle cages (regular wire ones). The bottles I picked up at feed stations wiggled around a lot and almost didn’t fit in the cage. What would you recommend for a cheap but good water bottle cage?
Also, any recommendations for a homemade way to attach a cage between your aerobars?

For a BTA mount zipties are your friend.
As far as cages go, the Bontrager plastic ones and Specialized RibCages are pretty good. I run some Profile Karbon Kages I got on sale for $20ea.
I have always been happy with the Specialized Rib Cage, they list for $20. I have used them on my road bike, mtb and on my tri bike behind the saddle. Never lost a bottle even on the harshest roads and trails.
The basic Elite cages are very good.
Another vote for the Specialized Rib Cage. Been using them for a couple of years and they have been solid. Had a pretty good “yard sale” type crash on my road bike last year and the bottles stayed in the cages.
