You get faster from week to week… I could hardly keep you in sight on the first run, on the curvy (and sometimes muddy) trail between the trees - only to see you jogging leisurely some extra miles, while I was sprinting for my finish. I was happy to see myself pulling away from my mexican running-buddy in that sprint, only to see No. 10 flying uphill in front of me! Would have been nice to know that the finish is uphill to reserve some momentum to respond to such atacks…
I understand that the timing @ Grosse Ile will be provided by the same crew - is there a way to have them record&post the T1 & T2 times? I kinda miss those from Nankin’s results!
I am getting faster and I am hopelessly out of shape right now. It will take about 8-12 weeks to really hit my stride.
I hope the timing at Grosse Ile does include transitions (is that what you meant?). I was looking for the other two mats at Nankin Mills. Two of the splits include tranistion times and that is lame.
I doubt you’ll see the level of officiating at Grosse Ile we saw at Nankin Mills.
This week I am getting two massages and I bought a new mattress so hopefully I will be faster this weekend. I pulled a muscle on the bike yesterday. Second run was very painful.
The girl I was jogging with at the end was my buddy Marcie. She’s a close friend and big fun.
The only good thing about having transition times included in the run splits is that I was able to ‘out run’ Cheryl. Her run splits were only 5 and 4 seconds slower than mine, and since I am usually faster than her in transition, she probably did run faster.
True, true. I am still upset about my first drafting penalty I recieved near mile 9 - which should have been the turnaround section. Oh well it was still a good time.
So are any of you fast masters racing at the official Midwest Duathlon Championships (the Apple Duathlon in Sartell, MN on June 5)? If so, it looks like my chances of placing just went into the crapper.
I hope the timing at Grosse Ile does include transitions (is that what you meant?).
Exactly…
I usually like to crunch the numbers for fun, but it could’ve been a malfunctioning mat or something.
The other “strange” thing was the total dissapearance of the volunteers/marshals & AID STATIONS on the second run! Anybody familiar w/ the trails could’ve cut short the final run…
Tom, How many are signed up for Grosse Isle? I’d love to do it to work out this penalty red ass I’ve got, but I really need to do a long brick for IMLP.
There are about 100 pre-registered and that may nearly double for day-of registration if the weather is nice. I was a little concerned about numbers becasue Grosse Ile used to be the season opener for the multisport year ut now it is just one of three races between Willow, Nankin Mills and Grosse Ile. That may trim the numbers a bit. We’ve had as many as 288 in the race. I doubt we’ll see those numbers this year. Our new transition area near the Navy Blimp hanger will hold, I am told 300+ athletes. This will also be the first operational deployment of the Bikesport Blimp. Mario will be the blimp captain at Grosse Ile.
I didn’t see him on the list. I think I might have been able to handle him at Nankin Mills becasue of my faster first run (6:31 vs 6:41 for Willow) and the longer, faster bike at Nankin Mills.
Realistically, Raul is the least of my worries. there are lot of guys who will absolutely smoke me. Sean Tyrrell is flying. Tom Hardin is supposed to be there- he is super fast. There will be a powerful 40+ field there. I think I am set for another trouncing.
It’s OK, I deserve it. I am out of shape for short and fast.
I was at Todd’s ironkamp again this year and it was absolutely NUTS!!! We road about 250-275 ran between 35-40 and swam a couple miles…all in 2 1/2 days in very inclement weather! Along with Todd, Vaughn Cooper was there along with many other great AG’ers. I talked to Todd and he mentioned that his wife might have to work Saturday, he’s not sure if he’ll make it or not. If anyone is looking for some great training you should look into this kamp. Just like last year Tom at Bikesport helped sponsor the kamp with some great swag (Thanks Tom). He also supplied a mechanic to work on our bikes if needed!
