Warning about taking bike on Lufthansa

I should have done my due diligence- my daughter is racing in European Triathlon Cups three weeks on the trot. I booked a flight from
Rzeszów to Munich one way so we can then take the train to Kitzbuhel which cost £250 each. It didn’t give me the option to book a bike. It stated to go to Manage you Bookings to book the bike. You cannot manage a booking unless you have already booked so I did it,. It then said you need to complete a form to request a spot on the plane for the bike. I did that and then was ask to contact them. The number they gave me was out of service. I finally got through to them and they said the plane cannot accommodate for the bike and I am not eligible to change my flight or get a refund so I have lost £250. BE CAREFUL if you want to take your bike on Lufthansa- their customer service was horrible too. Would expect a lot more professional service from a company like this. I have flown on countless airlines with my bike or with my daughter and her bike and have never, ever been through this!!! Taking the time to post this so it doesn’t happen to any one else.

I’m having PTSD from my experience with Lufthansa in Munich.

Horrible airline.

A customer in our store just said the same thing. Lost $2200 and they were obnoxious and non helpful.

I flew Lufthansa weekly for a year while working in Italy. They constantly cancel or change flights and I had 7 compensation claims against them at one point, they are just resolving the last now. For such a well known airline they are utterly dreadful. Bike cost me €70 each direction and the penultimate time I traveled with it they completely destroyed my hard case. Never again.

I read somewhere they have financial difficulties, which is why they are so quick to cancel and give up slots. They refused to acknowledge any of my compensation cases either so I had to handle them through a solicitor, meaning I lose some of the compensation, but they also incur cost as they don’t give in until right before court.

Thanks for the note.
I am scheduled to fly to Frankfurt next week from Calgary - I thought I was booking Air Canada (who are actually pretty good with bikes themselves, in my experience), but it turns out it is a flight run by a Lufthansa carrier. I have twice submitted the request to bring the bike through that site. When I submitted the request, it stated I would be contacted within 48 hours, but I still haven’t been. Do you happen to still have the phone number that actually worked?
Cheers, i

Sorry i don’t have the number as I am traveling with my daughter in Europe as she is racing in the elite races 3 weeks in a row. I would go to their online chat to ask. Provide them with your booking reference. I think you should be fine as it will be a big plane from Calgary. I am flying from Rzeszow to Munich, it is a small plane. I am now flying on LOT (a Polish airline and they have space on the plane)… It is costing me another £250… I am furious! You would expect better from a huge airline like Lufthansa.

That is so bad! That is a lot of money to lose… I will not be flying with them again, unless I have no other choice.

Sadly too late to help you, but I’ve flown quite a bit lately on Delta and their partners and it has been quite easy and my bike has traveled free. The downside of the current state of traveling and everyone booking their own tickets is that the costs and details of traveling with bikes is hard to find without experience.

Good luck to you and enjoy such a wonderful trip. I’m confident that the memories will far exceed the glitches.
