Warm Gloves for Running Below 25 Degrees

I’m looking for some gloves (or convertible mittens) for running in cold temps (under 25 degrees). Any suggestions?

Why not run in mittens? The answer to this question is going to be highly dependent on how cold your hands get. Personally I run in glove liners down to -5C or so, then cross country ski gloves, then light mittens.

I wear those cheap brown or black gardeners gloves. When it gets too cold for just those, I add a pair of those cheap stretchy gloves you get at Wal-Mart, 2 pair for a $1.40. The theme here is I’m frugal, some may say cheap.

Try some cross-country skiing gloves - something like Toko Thermo+, of if that’s too warm, a lighter model.

In cold weather I use Mizuno breath thermo gloves or Smartwool glove liners with a Sugoi wind mitt over top. That way if it gets too warm, I just take off the wind mitt for a while. The common problem with running and really warm insulated gloves is that you get too hot at the beginning then the sweat reduces the insulating capability so it’s never right. One you get the gear right, running outside in the winer is great.

I use my snowboard gloves if I’m running in those temps.

Lets see, that’s about -5C, not what I’d call cold, but it’s all relative I guess. I would reach for my Windstopper fleece gloves. Quite minimalist. Had 'em for years now. Get a pair, they’ll last forever.

Winter bike mittens with a lobster claw work great (I use Pearl Izumi). Tim

Down to the low 20’s I just use the cheapest knit gloves I can find at target. They keep my hands plenty warm and breath better than any technical glove I’ve found. I think I paid $2 for 2 pair last time. If it gets colder I have a very thing pair of poly fleece gloves I’ll wear instead.

I run in thin knit gloves until about 30F, below that I will just pull on a pair of thick wool socks over my gloves. Admittedly it looks looks rather stupid, but keeps my hands warm even after the socks get wet from either the weather or sweat condensation. That keeps me good to about -10F.

one way to deal with this is get some latex gloves from the drug store, wear those under whatever other gloves you have. has to be real cold though or you will fill them with sweat.

lobster claw is another good option

they are fantastic.
also, x2 on the latex gloves under something else if you don’t want to splash the $80 for a nice pair of independent gloves.

I one up you in cheapness. My vote is for an old pair of socks.

Layers are your friend. I am apt to wear two thinner gloves way before a thicker one. Even down to 0F, which I do run in, I wear a relatively thin glove with a basic running mitten over top.

If it’s really cold and/or you’re going to be out for awhile, bring a spare hat. My friend taught me that trick awhile ago and it’s been great. Stay a ton warmer after the hat change

Live in MN and use the cheap stretchy gloves you can get at walmart or target. Good down to about 0.

nothing fancy. a pair of polar fleece gloves work great. they breathe, are warm, and are easy to just throw in the washing machine to get my snot off them.

x2. It is a great idea to get something that can help you wipe your nose.
