Want to upgrade crankset, what do I need?

I am considering upgrading my crankset, but am unsure of what I need.

I have Ultegra shifters and front derailleur, DA rear derailleur (10 speed), and FSA Tripple. I want to upgrade to a double. Ideally, I would like to do so without upgrading everything. Any reccomendations?

If you have any other questions on the specs…let me know…thanks for the help

I think you’ll need to swap the front shifter from one with 3 positions to one with 2 positions.

You can possibly find just the front brake lever/shifter on e-bay.

I don’t think that you need to change the front derailleur, but am not entirely sure if those differ from 2-3 rings.

First, I would say you are not “upgrading” your crankset, but rather changing it to something that is more useful to you. Triples, standards and compacts are neither better or worse that each other, they just offer a different range of gear ratios.

OK, now if you’re pretty sure you want a different range of gears, you will need a double crankset either compact or standard, a new front derailleur and probably a new left shifter. A triple set up might include a long cage rear derailleur which you might also want trade out for a short cage depending on chain length and slack, and cassette size.

If your bike has a braze on FD mount, you need to make sure your FD will mount in a position that allows it to be 2mm over the big chain ring of the new crank.
