Wahoo Snap & Ride an actual course w/ Resistance - possible?

Hey everyone…
I recently picked up a Wahoo Kickr Snap with ideas of it essentially being a cheaper version of a computrainer which I love training on indoors (as much as you can anyways). However, now that I have it I’m having a heck of a time finding anywhere where you can actually ride a real course and have resistance change. Below is my understanding of the apps so please correct me if I’m wrong or give me other options

Zwift - you can’t upload actual courses, say an Ironman course
BKool - you can upload courses, but it cant control resistance on any trainer other than their own
TrainerRoad - Can’t upload courses, its just a training app. May be able to control the resistance to get into a power range. Not sure…haven’t figured out how yet.
Sufferfest - Similar to TR. Can control the trainer, but just to be in the zones they want in the videos. No ability to upload your own courses and ride them.

So, does anyone have any apps that allow me to ride an actual course on my kickr snap and have the trainer adjust the resistance according to the course and make me shift and do everything just like you would have to outside? I cant imagine this is a new request people have since Computrainer has been doing this exact thing for 15+yrs.

From my understanding PerfPro can do this…

Use beat bike split to generate a power profile for yourself. Then you can download that as an erg profile which you can import into trainerroad workout creator

I’m pretty sure you can with PerfPro

I don’t think PerfPro gets enough credit on here. I’ve been using it since 2014 to either enter workouts a coach gives me or I enter a series of TrainerRoad style structured workouts. There are libraries of courses or training plans you have access to, as well as being able to build or upload your own workouts and courses. Drew the creator is always super responsive when I have a question or technical issue too. And you purchase it once for $100, and it’s yours forever.
I’ve been very happy with it, and definitely recommend it if you don’t need the training plan that comes along with TrainerRoad, or the gamification that goes along with Zwift.

I actually did this a while ago with a local Sprint Tri course and a local weekly TT course.
Haven’t tried them out since I got my Kickr Snap. Looks like I have plans this evening.

I don’t think I was clear with my question. I am looking for an app that allows me to upload actual courses, say an Ironman course, and ride it with hills and all. And while riding have the trainer change my resistance so I have to actually shift.

I’m not looking for a training program like trainer road has (while great and I use it) but somewhere to ride actual courses like you can do with computrainers software

I understood you perfectly… from what I understand PerPro does this as I said. In fact that’s one of a couple of reasons I’m thinking about buying a PerfPro license and getting a smart trainer.

My coach’s training group will be doing an 8 month series at a cycling studio that uses PerfPro… they will be building actual race courses some/many of us will be racing. With a smart trainer like the Kickr they use at the studio, it increases resistance for hills, etc. simulating the “road” best it can.

With PerfPro it looks like all you’d have to do is get a course file… like a Garmin, import it and then ride it.

Did you even look at the PerfPro website? You of course need a preexisting file from a course (from a past ride, or pulled off from someone else’s Strava, RidewithGPS, etc), then you upload it into PerfPro and it controls your trainer to increase/decrease resistance according to the elevation profile. I thought that was exactly your question? That is exactly what PerfPro does.

The rest was just me, generally commenting on the other great perks of PerfPro.

Got it! Do you happen to know if that site can control via Bluetooth? I just spoke to bkool and they told me their software can control othe trainers but only via ant+ which means I would need to buy additional components to make it work which is lame

That I don’t know, I only use it via ANT+ and on a PC. ANT+ dongles are cheap and easy for that configuration.

Anyone have experience with rouvy?

PerfPro studio, you can export exiting Strava ride and import it to PerfPro studio and ride it, or you can draw map using strava mapping tool and import it to PerfPro studio.

If you want to ride google maps street view of those courses exported form Strava you can use it via Virtual training app https://my.rouvy.com/en I use both they work great.

www.fulgaz.com
Use it all the time.
Loads of video routes.
Super ‘real road’ feel.
Unlimited 14 day trial.
They just added 7 higher quality alpine climbs this week.

As somebody else stated above, you can pull files from courses (I used BestBikeSplit for this as well) into the TrainerRoad workout creator, and you can ride them as custom workouts.

+1 on Fulgaz

Haven’t used it myself (I’ve only tried Zwift and now just do intervals), but have a teammate who swears by it. He is also using a Snap.

Yes, you can use bkool simulator and it will control your SNAP. As long as you have the gpx file, you can upload it on their site and then they will convert it into a course or if you are lucky, you will get a 3rd course which is kind of cool.

Rouvy does that as well and does it well. You can also do the same with the new Tacx Training app. It’s currently in free open beta but only available for Windows. Mac version is in the works.

Trinut
That isn’t true regarding bkool. I spoke to them today and it will only control 3rd party trainers via ant+. If you want to use Bluetooth you have to have a bkool trainer.

As for rouvy, I tried it today and it works perfect via Bluetooth. The resistance seems a little off as hills in real life are much easier than on the trainer. But that could be my settings so I’ll have to play with that

You can do the same thing in Zwift now as well.

In both cases this gives you a workout that changes resistance according to your .gpx route as a percentage of your input FTP.

Correct, didn’t notice you’re only looking for Bluetooth only.

Hey everyone!

I know a few of you guys have mentioned the fact that you are able to make a custom workout in Best Bike Split and then use our TR Workout Creator to import it into TrainerRoad. I thought I’d go ahead and clarify the process for anyone interested.

First you must have a Best Bike Split and a TrainerRoad account.Create a Athlete Profile in Best Bike Split to get baseline information such as FTP.Upload a course or courses you wish to model into Best Bike Split in .GPX or .FIT format or choose one or more courses from our growing database.Create a race plan based on Goal IF, Time or TSS.From the Race Details page download the ERG, MRC, or TrainerRoad file type.Open the TrainerRoad Workout Creator.Drag the file from your downloads folder onto the left side of the Workout Creator.Name your workout in the Workout Creator and select Publish which is on the lower right.Open the TrainerRoad app and check out your BBS workout under the custom workouts.
If you are interested in seeing these steps in video form, you can check that out here:
