Hey - I wanted to get some input on my Wahoo Kickr and a resistance issue I’m having.
I just set my bike up on it yesterday and did a couple mile ride on Zwift to test it out, and I was having a lot of issues with the resistance changing. My understanding is that when I’m going up an incline or down a decline, the resistance will change in accordance with the grade on the Zwift terrain.
I noticed it change as I was pedaling, but multiple times, it became so difficult it was literally impossible for me to pedal. I kept getting notifications about ERG mode turning on and off, which I suspect has something to do with it. I also noticed the app says ERG Mode Speed Simulation/Power Smoothing, which I can turn off and on. What can I do about this issue so that I can ride in Zwift effectively?
This is a problem that comes back now and again with the kickr (at least for me). Even when I do erg mode, it can decide to put in 800w for a second or 2 and I can’t push the fly wheel around.
Dont know why it is happening but really annoying during intervals
While it might be a technical issue or bug as others are saying, it sounds like you have the ‘free-ride’ mode and ERG modes confused. In ERG mode the trainer sets the resistance so that with the current cadence you will hit a specific pre-set watt target - which is perfect for workouts. In ‘free-ride’ mode the resistance will vary according to the terrain in Zwift (i.e. climbs and decents), while in ERG the terrain will not impact the resistance in your trainer (but will impact the speed of your avatar).
My first kickr went kaputt in a month and they replaced it.
The second one is totally off with the resistance and I have been around and around with tech support, resets, firmware, etc etc and basically I got another lemon. I can’t pedal past level one.
