Wahoo kickr question

Is it safe to ride the wahoo Kickr without plugging it in? I’m debating whether I should hold onto my kurt kinetic or not.

I think it just defaults to level mode when unplugged. But why would you spend $1000 to not plug it in?

There is the rare occasion i travel somewhere, train outside, etc where electricity is not an option. Just wondering if it would be fine to ride the kickr in those instances or hold onto my kurt kinetic just in case.

The Kicker does also work with 12 volts DC from an auto or truck if that helps.

I was wondering this myself, we have been dealing with day-long power outages where I live and I didn’t even know it could be used without power so I never rode!!

Yes, I’m aware. Was it supposed to shop with the car adapter? If so, mine didn’t. I’m more interested in using it when i want to go somewhere quick and not have to lug around a laptop and whatnot.

I can’t imagine it being ‘unsafe’ to ride without being plugged in, it’s not like we’re talking about running a car without an oil pump or anything.

The KICKR has computer-controlled magnetic resistance, I can only assume through the use of electromagnets. Without power there would be nothing to energize the electromagnets (and obviously not the computer either) so while it would be entirely safe to ride it the only resistance you would have would be from the flywheel. It goes without saying it would also not transmit ANT+ or Bluetooth.

That’s my theory at least, I have a KICKR at home I just haven’t ridden it without it being plugged in. Can give a whirl tonight to confirm.
