Long time reader, first time poster.
Thought I gave the question a go at ST, hoping on more response than the Polar forums.
I’m in the market for a new multisport watch and looking to the Polar v800/Flow combo as a HW & SW replacement for the Garmin/Training Peaks combo I currently use.
I have a Kickr to do indoor structured interval training with iMobileIntervals or TrainerRoad.
Afterwards I monitor balance/training load in Training Peaks.
Is it possible to control the Kickr through a Bluetooth Smart app (such as the ones I use) and let the session (power, HR, cadence) be recorded on the v800 so that afterwards I can follow up on training load in Polar Flow?
In essence the Wahoo HR, cadence and power stuff would have to be connected to the iPad as well as the v800, both using Bluetooth Smart.
Is there anyone here who uses the same hardware or has a similar setup that can enlighten me?
Short answer is no you can’t. You can do it with the HR however as polar broadcast on h7 as well. So start session on trainerroad and then cycling on v800. It will find h7.
I have v800 and the kickr. I don’t think you can pair the kickr to the V800 and an app at the same time. I just unpaired the cadence sensor from the V800 and paired it to the kickr. I use the heart rate sensor with the V800 and its works for the training load. Hope this helps. You def want to get trainerroad. So worth it.
Will use the trick Tony suggested to get HR in both systems (that accomplishes the training load part in Flow), just a pity that power will either be recorded in TrainerRoad or Flow. Another trick might be to use an ANT+ to BLE bridge to record power in both the app and the watch.
Trainerroad is indeed the shizzle and has made me a better cyclist.
I wrote HR to TR and Flow using Tony’s trick (simultaneos BLE and Polar h7 communication).
Kickr Power is either to TR, either to v800, ie not both at the same time over BLE. Ant+ bridging is not stable yet according to Tony.
V800 can record Kickr power, I’ve read on the interwebs that both devices need a certain firmware version to make it compatible. I’m assuming you can get it in Flow through the watch sync.
I believe you’ll need firmware 1.4.0 or higher on the v800 (http://www.polar.com/en/support/v800_release_notes) and the latest firmware update for the Kickr (can’t seem to find release notes on the Wahoo site).
Hi
We have a Kickr here so we can help field test your questions. I may be repeating what Tony has said, so please excuse me. Right now you have to select which device collects the Power data, Polar V800/Flow or TR. Which ever device gets the signal first wins and blocks the other device. I would think the Ipad/App should get the power numbers since you may be paying for TR and it is setting the resistence and duration of effort?? In theory you could unpair the Kickr from the app and let the V800 see wattage and use the app for interval timers and power target #'s?? The app can the BT hr and let the V800 get the 5KHZ hr signal. The Polar H7 sends a dual signal, BT and 5khz. 5khz works under water which is why the V800 gets this data. Since the V800 can hear both signals, let TR get BT. I do not think 4iiii ViiiiVa can help here.
Thank you Slowman for the alert
Smartest to send ANT+ to TR and BLE to V800, Kickr supports that, right? Replace sensors with dual ANT/BLE, if needed. I have done this and couldn’t be happier. BLE alone is just not ready yet for the multi headunit world many of us live in.
I find the v800 gives you the training status you want based on the HR alone so I wouldn’t worry about that. Yes the V800 pairs with the kickr on current software for both.
I hope to see a bridge that will allow taking Ant from kickr and broadcasting it to the v800.
Make sure you remove the kickr from the V800 or it will fight with trainerroad for the signal.
Hi Wayne, thanks for picking in, always nice to see industry folks connect with the base.
Don’t quite follow you on dropping TrainerRoad, it would be kind of a bummer to only use as it as a timer & label thing of sorts for the power target to hit. It offers so much more.
Tony’s suggestion gives me the feedback of training load in Flow, which is in essence what I’m looking for.
Still not willing to give up on having power numbers on the iPad & the v800 at the same time though.
Would you have access to a RFLKT+, I read on dcrainmaker’s blog that it acts as a BLE bridge and works bridging ant+ to the iPhone Wahoo app.
So in theory, all of the Wahoo stuff would BLE to the iPad (HR, cadence and Kickr) and the RFLKT+ would act as a bridge between the ant+ signal of the HR, cadence and Kickr to the v800 using BLE through RFLKT+.
Would you have access to one to field-test it?
I know I could use a laptop with ant+ dongle, and do the TrainerRoad stuff from there but kind of negates the ease of use of BLE and convenience of the iPad.
Would have to expand the shopping list and add a RFLKT+, guess I’m lucky that my wife isn’t reading ST.
Hi Wayne, I plan to use Virtual Trainer (real routes) to sync with the Kickr (I presume this can be done). From what you have indicated, as bluetooth is a one-device transmitting medium, your recommendation is to link the Kickr to the VT app (since I am paying for it) and that should record my power, cadence, speed, etc etc… Are you aware if there is any way that the workout can then be transmitted to Flow? I would like to consolidate all my workout in Flow.
I use the V800 and the bluetooth duotrap for my trek bike.
