Wahoo HR strap

Hi, does anyone have any experience with the wahoo Tickr or Tickr x straps? Thinking of getting one but don’t want to blow 50-100 bucks just to realize this thing sucks. If it helps I’m also getting a new unit soon I’m leaning to a leftover 310xt (only 80 bucks as a referb) but possibly… a 910xt or vivoactive.

On a side note, I know the 310 is out dated. But my master plan is to get the successor to the 920xt when it comes out. So I don’t mind going on the low end for now.

Anyhow, most wanted, feedback on Wahoo Tickr. Accuracy, comfort, spikes, durability.

Thumbs up on the TICKR. One of the big bonuses is that it’s BTLE and ANT+ (so it will work with your Garmin and your phone, and is futureproofed). If you do a lot of workout at the gym, the TICKRrun also has an uncoded 2.4gHz signal that will show up on treadmills/lifecycles/ellipticals.

If you are getting a new HRM, also consider the optical ones (MIO Link and Scosche). They are about the same cost.

Mine works great, no spikes, no ‘wandering’, just as comfortable as other straps. The dual bluetooth/ant+ makes it really easy to sync with both my watch and a bike computer, or recently with Zwift. I’ve had it for about six months so I can’t comment too much on durability but it’s holding it’s own so far. My experiences with straps is when they go bad they go bad quick though.

I have the TICKR and the HR monitor that came with the 920xt. I hated the Garmin strap so ditched that and have been using the TICKR strap exclusively with the Garmin HR monitor. Didn’t have use for the TICKR again until yesterday when I started using KK Inride power meter and needed a HR monitor that was BTLE compatible. I typically wash my strap weekly or every 2 weeks and it has held up nicely while also being used for a couple thousands miles. If I don’t wash it regularly it will become lose around my chest. I used the TICKR for a couple of weeks prior to getting the 920xt and I didn’t have any issues with drops or spikes.

Ditto what’s been said. My Tickr works great and I don’t get the random spikes that I was getting with a Garmin strap.

Add me to the list of people who love the Tickr.

Love my TICKR. Best HR strap I’ve owned, and there have been a few.

Side note on the Scosche - I have one, and while I like the idea of optical HR and the form factor of it, I felt like it was slow to react to big changes in HR when I was working out, and I had quite a few dropouts with it. I mostly use it now while sleeping with my iphone recording to track RHR/recovery.

I’ve had the Tickr for about a year, and so far it just works. It’s been on thousands of miles of runs and bikes, and even drug through the pool on a sprint tri. Every rare once in a while during a run, it’ll get too sweaty and slide a little, just kinda freezing at whatever HR it happened at. I’ll have to pull it up, and it’ll start again. But that’s happened maybe 3-5 times in a year, maybe once or twice and on an actual run, and same on treadmill. Infinitely more reliable than my garmin have ever been.

I really like the dual band capability, as I can use it with my phone, or with my ant + stuff. It’s really a nice piece of gear. If I broke it, I’d buy another.

I have the Tickr strap as well. It’s great and works perfect. One complaint, but this might be more for any of the soft straps out there is that I always have to completely soak the strap prior to a run, or it will slide down. I’ve made sure it’s good and snug but the only way to keep it up is to ensure it’s wet. I’ve had them dry out and on harder runs, slide down off my chest. Too bad the whole strap isn’t more rubberised, etc. so it never slides off of dry skin. Minor issue though. Overall, it works great!! No spikes either.

I’m a heavy sweater and seemed to have burned through two of the wahoo hrm’s. They start having trouble pairing in BLTE and require a reset. Finally, they stop pairing all together. Wahoo replaced under warranty, but after the second one went I returned to using my 8 year old Garmin strap. I also noted that the Garmin reads ~10 bpm different for me. I was able to check the wahoo against the hrm built into treadmills and stationary bikes at the gym - so I think the wahoo was the more accurate of the two. If it weren’t for the pairing issues I had I would say the wahoo was a superior product. My n = 1.

prefer the ticker over even the new updated garmin HRM premium soft straps. The BLTE is handy, and i don’t seem to get the spikes i do with my garmin

I have the MIO wrist HRS but it doesn’t seem as accurate as the chest strap. I tried it on L & R wrist, it’s awkward to wear with your watch too.

The opticals seem to read well for some people and not for others. If you hate the constriction of chest straps, or want to get HR while swimming they are a good option (assuming they read well for you).

I have mine (MIO Link) under the band of my Garmin, so it’s not like wearing two watches.

thx, ill try that…

I use some silicone hair bands to make sure it stays under the band.

For the ones that have the Mio Link, do any of you guys have any issues where your link will not charge? I have two links (1 that I bought for about 30 brand new) and both do not like to charge.

Side note, I also have issues with getting an accurate reading for the Mio especially when running. Usually I’ll start out running easy and I look up and my HR is over 180. I know that’s just wrong.

Have you tried the strap with a treadmill? I messaged them on Facebook a month ago asking if it would work and they said unfortunately not…

The TICKR won’t, but the TICKRrun should.

I use my TICKRX with the treadmill all the time. The distances aren’t perfect, even after calibrating it, but it works fine and still gives all the running metrics.

Do you see any sliding when riding?

And when changing the battery…are there little screws that get stripped? I’ve had my Garmin HRM replaced because one screw was stripped. Now it’s outside warranty and the replacement unit has TWO screw’s stripped. Literally driving me crazy. I want something that “just works”. Must be a strap, I’m a TT’er so not going to wear something on wrist.
