Incredible swim!!! Should be great races this summer at World’s and next year at the Oly. I did not know she was training in Florida now. She is just a ball of fire in the water.

With nobody around her. Incredible performance, but even moreso when it’s just the fire in her belly because, what - 10s slower would have got it done…
The 400M free at next years Olympics could go down as the best race in the history of women’s swimming. The only thing that could tarnish it is if Summer wins by 2 seconds. It is going to take a 3:54 to win it.

Well that’s exactly the danger. If she keeps tearing up records, she just sets the bar higher and higher and higher for herself at age 15. There is a long time from here to Tokyo to pace through to build into. Yesterday was not the Olympic finals. Even 2-3 seconds slower send everyone enough for a signal, but gives her room to go faster. Maybe she sandbagged it, but still its a lot of self and coaching generated pressure for a 15 year old to sustain for another 18 months.
Watched and what was stunning is that (I believe) seven out of 8 50’s were under 30. The next WR will require 8.
Watched some of the men’s 400s and she would have shown well in those as well.
And here I’m still trying to learn Katie’s 2 beat kick…
She pushed the boys to be faster. Laon Kim set a 13/14 NAG record at 4:01, then went 3:56.

Actually, she is about 16 and 1/2 and will be 17 on 1 August. Still, your overall point is solid but I think she’s just so wrapped up in trying to go faster that telling her to “not swim too fast” is not going to work.

Tokyo??? Worlds are in Fukuoka, and next Olympic Games in France.
In any case, anything can happen but she’s been the best in the world at her age for a while now, it seems like she can handle the pressure.
As far as “keeps tearing up recordsâ€, huh? She’s set a bunch of world junior records, but this was her first world record, most likely on a small taper. Worlds are far enough away that a taper is a good thing at this point in the season. And she didn’t shatter the old record. I’m not worried that it’s too much too soon.
The 400 will be awesome at worlds .
Do 16 1/2 year old’s need to taper. When I was that age (and dinosaurs roamed the pool deck) the taper started on Wednesday, after practice.
sorry, meant Paris Olympics. Carry on, now

By “taper†I mean that coach let them out of the pool early on Thursday. The distance group never tapered much
I still back Titmus to win in Paris. She is just all class
Interesting to compare the post race interactions at com games (titmus and summer) and worlds 22 and pro races (ledecky and summer). Should be a few more great races to come

She could be going faster in 18 months, or slower, time will tell. But missing a world record to save some physical and mental energy for a meet that is 18 months down the road when you are 16 does not make any sense whatsoever. If you watch the video, clearly her coach would disagree with your strategy.
And, man… you come across as such a negative and bitter dude. A historic performance by one our local swimmers at our local pool, and all you can post is “well…she is screwing for the Olympics”. A strange case of sour grapes?
Anyway, incredible performance, could not attend in person but had goosebumps watching the video.
More fast swimming from Trials - this time from Josh Liendo coming off a fantastic NCAAs.

I hope he goes under sub 50 soon. I swim with a kid who used to race him and he was talking about how he has progressed from a “mediocre” 73 all the way down to 50.

50.3 in Finals… I haven’t seen any video yet…
Summer just broke the 400 IM world record. 4:25.87.
