You don’t hide your colors do you? Well, I watched the debate and I have to admit, Cheney impressed me. However, so did Edwards. Edwards really did hold his own (if you’re trying to be as unbiased as possible). He didn’t leave any remark unchallenged and did what he had to do.
Cheney was good as well (could work on his body language a bit… Don’t slouch!) However he really did make some solid points… Whether you agreed with him or not.
I think the biggest positive for Cheney was his likeablity factor. Especially when the the gay marriage issue came up. He showed class and respect when Edwards stated that Cheney obviously cared about his family.
However, outclassed? Put your Republican rally sign away for a bit and try to make an unbiased assessment. The overall early consensus is that this debate did very little for either side. Looks like the focus is now back on the presidential debates.
Doing a quick check, there are about the same number of polls saying VP Cheney won as there are saying Sen Edwards won. Call it a draw, and call it for what it is, a VP debate which is an animal that rarely has any measurable effect on the election.
For example, the foreign policy portion of the debate most definitely went to Cheney. His depth of experience and knowledge in that area certainly trumped Edwards. In many cases, Edward’s reply’s to the war in Iraq followed the scripted Democratic mantra. In response to the Israel/Palestinian question, Edwards went off on a personal story that went into a Sbarro restaraunt incident and never really answered the question.
Don’t get me wrong. Edwards held his own in this debate and didn’t back down. However, don’t confuse talking alot and acting as indicators of a good debate performance. Look beyond the semantics and look for the substance each candidate had to their statements.
Edwards sat up straight and Cheney did slouch. But Edward’s cutaway shots showed a lot of nervous eye blinking and what I call mouthing/tongue smacking and smirking.
The VP’s primary job is to step in if the President isn’t able to fulfill the duties of office. Looking at what I saw last night it became clear who the better person is if that ever comes to fruition.
By the way, your party colors are showing as well.
I call it two arogant assholes who make their lives around manipulating and controlling people say the company line and stay in there little worlds with their fingers in their ears.
Glad I watched Rides and saw the awsome coupes built by Hollywood Hot Rods and Overhaulin to see Chip Fouse create a bitchin blue 62 Thunderbird work of art. I’ll take true craftsman over men who have sold their souls anyday.
Like someone having dinner with Dan rather than me.
Only you could read eastcoasttri’s post and say his “party colors are showing.” What more do you want besides, Cheney did well, Cheny’s strenth was his likeability, Edwards held his own and did what he had to do? If they don’t agree with your assesment, then their party colors are showing?
Alright, so in your eyes… But lets be honest, it’s the general consensus that counts. And both sides agree that good points were made by both.
“… what I call mouthing/tongue smacking and smirking.”
Are we talking about Edwards here or Bush?
“The VP’s primary job is to step in if the President isn’t able to fulfill the duties of office.”
I know the Republicans try to sell this about Cheney… But he admits that he’s on his last legs. Granted there’s little he can do about his health, but i’d still be nervous if he were at the controls.
“By the way, your party colors are showing as well.”
Edwards looked weak and indecisive.
I thought Cheney did a good job with numbers and actual examples.
Edwards was desperate and kept changing the subject.
Neither were perfect, and I do understand that they both are politicians and do their fair share of twisting, but to say Edwards held his own is mega-crap.
This is a debate, not a trial case. The histroy and examples are more important than the presentation. If you ask me, party affiliations aside, Edwards has some learning to do.

Scary to think that if Kerry won, the most powerful nation in the world would be a “heartbeat” away from having John Edwards as its leader.
The only bad about Cheney was his posture (have any of you had you chest cracked open? maybe he was sitting up) and the way he kept playing with that damn notebook, he wan’t really writing in it he would just reach down and move it while he was talking. I didn’t know that he was the first in his family to go to college, way to shutdown Edwards big son a mill worker advantage.
I think Edwards will get the larger move in teh polls since just like the last debate this is the first time he is on the stage with the vice president. And that guy was too savvy, he smiled all the time and looked right into the camera (not at the moderator like Cheney), he just seemed a little too polished for me.
Left wing bloggers are going crazy posting this picture of Cheney and Edwards meeting at a 2001 prayer breakfast. So much for never having met before. I thought that was the best zinger of the debate. Too bad it wasn’t true…
