Vittoria Pista EVO CL tubulars on a concrete velodrome

I picked up today the 19mm pair of Vittoria Pista EVO CL tubulars tires that will be used on a concrete velodrome next Sunday. These tires are extremely light (close to half the weight of the Corsa EVO CX) and they look even fragile against the Corsa EVO CX tubulars that my son has been using in the past.

The tires look fast, but also it seems to me that these tires won’t last much in the concrete surface so I am thinking in saving them for the Nationals where they will be raced in a smoother surface.

I will appreciate comments from anyone that has used them.

Sergio

You are correct, they will not last long on that type of surface, and you should save them to use as an event specific tire.

.

The Pista looks like a much faster tire than the Corsa but they also look as if they could be punctured by a mosquito. Two different animals for two different environments it seems.

Thanks fredly,

Sergio

I think Jens has tested those and the Pista was not faster than the Evo CX. I may be wrong though - am not sure if it was the Pista or the ‘super speed’ which is a paper-thin clincher very similar to the Pista - it was a roller test - that should be even more representative for track use. The very high pressures are also likely to diminish any difference in RR. Anyway, try to contact Jens - a regular poster on this forum - who is easily one of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to tire RR.

Nick.
