Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX 290 vs. 320

I’m looking for some race only clinchers and these are pretty high on the list. The 290’s are pretty easy to find cheap, so the difference in price is $50+ a pair. Other than 30 extra TPI, is there any reason to go for the 320’s? Does the 290 have similar flat protection? The web description says the 320 has 40% more flat resistance, but does the 290 also have the same belt? Thanks for your help.

In any case - I would get the PR3 for the money. I have had far better luck with them as for flats and they seem to last much longer for the same or less money.

I do have the CX on all my tubbie and Zipp wheels…the clincher just IMO did not fare as well as the tubbies do (or as compared to the PR3)

That sounds like a big difference. They are only $42 and some change on PBK with completely free shipping. So to make it $50 difference for two you would need to find them for $17 each with free shipping. Or $13 each with $8 shipping.

So I don’t believe it is a $50 difference.

At the same time I use the 320 version and can’t even tell you if it is worth $5 to use the 320 over the 290. I really don’t know if there is any value in the 320 over the 290. But I have never seen any difference in price between the two so it has not matter to me.

BTW, if you do know where the 290s are for $17 with free shipping please share because I want to buy some.

Did notice you can get the 290 for $50 at Nashbar/Performance and with a 20% coupon you could get it down to $40. Shipping would be $10. So you are at $90 for two versus $84 for the 320. Do have to pay an extra 1% at PBK for international credit card. Some people have to pay more.

Still think PBK is a better deal, IMHO.

keep in mind too that the 320tpi come with the new longer valve stem. so if for a disc, you will need to buy a whole new extender and replace the stock red one.

Here is even a better deal on 290s. Buy only in the 20. It is $80 for two with free shipping. So a little cheaper than the 320s at PBK.

I was only able to find the 320 around retail most places I usaully look online, but found the 290 for $63 a pair. That’s a dollar less than 1 320 at Performance. PBK was the only place I saw 320’s more heavily discounted (I’m seeing $47.xx, not $42?), but since I live in Hawaii, I am concerned about shipping since it does say it can take up to 28 days. How long did it take for them to ship your stuff to Hawaii?

I have the 290 since Aug 2008 (I believe) with latex tubes,
I have use them in a bunch of races: Olympic → Half Iron (including AZoF Long course) + some training rides + “pre-race check” + sometimes ride to/from race.

& the tires & tubes are still on (I had to change front latex) due to a #$@$#@ mistake on my side.

Fred.

If you buy one of my bikes, the Vittoria Corsa Evo CX 320tpi clincher tires are included at $50 per pair.

Just some information to let you know what the markup on tires is.

$42 with the 10% discount. $63 a pair without shipping is a great deal.

I am in the midwest and get things from PBK in 5 days. Can’t imagine it taking 23 longer to get to Hawaii but have no idea.

So I order on the week-end I usually get my stuff on the following Friday. We do have efficient mail here and get things very quickly.
