Are there any Masters teams to swim with while out there? Any good trails to hit within distance of the campus.
I will be out there for about a week and will not have a car. I am staying on campus.

Stanford Masters is one of the top in the Country. #2 behind the Olympic Club in SF.
As for running there are great spots. The “Dish” is a common one. Check with the team’s cross country team (I am sure those nerds have a website) for other routes.
OMG they have the most gorgeous pools ever.
You are about to visit one of the best swim facilities ever created.
Is this a joke?
Stanford is just nice. I don’t know about it being “the best facility ever created”…probably far from that…but everything about Palo Alto is nice except for home prices, traffic and the nightlife.

Certainly the best facility that I’ve ever seen or been in.
That’s not really saying very much, since I’m not exactly an expert of national swim facilities, but . . .
My perspective is one of someone who swims indoors year-round; 25 yards 8-9 months of the year. Going long course is a real treat for me. Going outdoors is a real (and rare) treat. Now imagine how I would feel if you told me I could swim outdoors, long course, every single freaking day. In one of TWO 50m pools.
F-yeah is what I would say back.
I would like to know which facilities are better so I can make it a goal to visit those places.
As everyone has stated, Stanford Masters should be able to hook you up. Not sure how old you are, but I’m assuming since you are staying on campus that you are fairly young. You may want to see if you can hook up with the stanford triathlon team to go on their runs. Google them and get on their website and email them.
If you can’t, just run the dish in the morning, it is beautiful watching the sun come up. Also just run on campus since there is great architecture slash scenery all around you. You really should also try to ride out here. I’m biased but I do think that we have some of the best riding. You can ride with the stanford road team (google them…under their web site they have a newsgroup section which people will list the rides that they are doing for the upcoming week) which has team rides everyday at around 3pm or so that leaves from the post office on campus. Rent a bike from front of the pack which isn’t too far away or maybe see if you can bum one off someone on the team?.
If you hit any hang ups about being able to use the pool (really shouldn’t be), PM me. As an alum, I can get you in to all the facilities (weight room, pool, climbing wall, basketball courts) for 4 bucks a day. Hope you enjoy your stay.
BTW bring a camera. The campus is really beautiful. Make sure to visit, Memorial Church, the Stanford Museum with the Rodin Sculpture garden.
