Vinyl Wrap a Bike?

Anyone do this at all…and if so, what vinyl did you use? I suspect there are a variety of thicknesses.

Thanks for the help,

Yes, I wrapped my Cervelo P2 and have a thread discussing the details (link below). Been a couple years and the wrap is still on the bike and looks good. Let me know if you have any further questions. I also plasti dipped my road bike and have a thread about that you can search for.

This is awesome. Thank you!

Buy the highest quality vinyl would be my recommendation. I used 3M. Also lots of patience wrapping around bends where’s sections meet. Lastly, I switched over to a wheel on rack instead of a frame rack so bike sway during transport wouldn’t rub the vinyl.

Good call on the rack…that’s what I have too.

Did you use a heat gun to help with the stretching? I see some people use a spray on “soap” that helps adhere it. Did you use that?

Many moons ago I did use soapy water to put clear vinyl on MTB and it worked.

That’s mine. I did use hear sparingly. Something out heating up a carbon bike doesn’t sit well with me. Low setting of course.

Nice looking steed!

The base color of my bike it matte black, so all the dropouts and hangers will look good not wrapped. Not too sire which colors. May just do accent colors.

Again, thank you!

I’m a Look/Mondrian fan so it was easy for me to find inspiration. Good luck with your wrap. Best part is you can always redo it or remove it if you change your mind.

That was a great thread, my (now my wife’s) p5 is “snowboardgrrl” is the p5 in the last photo.

Iirc it added about 150gms to frame and fork, was done with little training and knowledge for about 200$.

Any chance you can update the pictures, I’m not seeing them on that thread.

That’s awesome!

So…I was told to take the bike apart and then step away and stop man-splainin’! So I did nothing.

But basically as others have said (always go 3m) white pearl purchased off Amazon. Also get the green 3m cut tape. Invest 100$ in one of the vinyl heat gun kits with all of the little plastic spatula/spreaders.

Edited above to include google photo link rather than link to postimage site. Much better this way.

Thanks, I have a 2012 P2 and think that wrapping would be a nice winter project.

We paid someone to wrap my wife’s bike a few years ago. It wasn’t cheap. It looks great. It has held up well but not as durable as paint (nicks happen more easily…maybe show up more because of the chromed vinyl we used). If we had to do over again we would have had it painted. The more crazy the design and the tight or complex the frame corners/curves the more difficult it is to keep the edges in those area smooth and stuck down. This is the only picture I have on this computer.
