His looks like just tape. AFAIK there isn’t an option to plug the holes.
I think Contador just had Giro make the wrap on his helmet cover the holes.

Not bored. I’m a cycling fan, and this is interesting even if the race does not have Lance hysteria. Check out the top 10 guys in the Giro. No shortage of former grand tour winners and podium guys.
I was a Vino fan, cause I like how he used to ride…doped or undoped. In TdF fields where most of the top 10 later tested positive (sans Lance), Vino provided the fireworks that kept things exciting and shook up the race. Vino’s attack down the mountain going to Gap (I think it was) lead to Lance’s cross country excursion and Beloki going down. Anyway, today Vino is competing against guys like Millar and Basso, all the top 10, all coming back from doping suspensions. Who knows who is doped or not. Bottom line is that he keeps the race exciting in a Sosa-McGuire-Bonds way (and all you guys who hate them loved all those home runs too…).
Anyway he is in Pink with Evans and Millar just a bit behind. Evans fortunately, has always tested clean.

Tunnel testing has shown that taping the vents shut on the Giro AdvII is worth about 4sec./40K (at 30mph). If heat isn’t an issue then it makes sense.
As for Vino, this must just be the way he has his helmet setup, since in the TTT you’re drafting most of the time; and if your teammates don’t tape their vents shut the overall gain is negligible.

I’m kinda torn on the remorse issue. Showing remorse is too easy once you’ve been caught. I mean it’s almost like too easy to be remorseful for some of these guys. It’s as if there are some guys who we are shocked/saddened when we find they dope (and hope they are found clean), and there are others who we are almost excited that they got caught. So than when people do get caught, they simply come up with a tearful confession/excuse and admit that they learned their lesson, and the cycling world feels good about what they learned. So I kinda find it refreshing/non caring when Vino simply doesnt care that he got caught (or care to show that he didnt mean to dope). Now does that mean he may not have learned his lesson? I guess we will find out. I guess the fact that they show remorse or not doesnt really matter to me, what matters is if they serve the penalty. But I can understand how the emotions of it, as we all want to feel good that the doper acknowledged they messed up, so that we can think they learned their lesson.
Vino was one of my fave’s for his attacking style, and it sucks that he got caught doping. But he has served his time, so he should be allowed whatever comes to him.

i can’t remember anything albeit i was engaged in criminal street activity in my teens but no one sponsored me and tossed monkeys at me for doing so and I sure didn’t have a worldwide tv audience on me on saying “Oh, look, I want to be like that, he’s fantastic!” but what you are saying/suggesting and in the manner is the proof of the decline, like those two women at leadville, “Oh, it’s okay because even if you do get caught you can race again, make tons of money and be heros.”
