Vineman 70.3 (6)

Just over two weeks away. Figured there would be a little chatter on here already but I guess not.
I heard they repaved some of the road , any locals know anything about that? Didn’t do the race last year but everything looks about the same as 2012 per the race program, which is up now FYI.

I’m really looking forward to this race. I’ve spent time in the area before but this will be my first time racing. Any updates on the water? I heard that it is usually low, but I’m assuming its even lower this year.

Was up there a few weeks ago. Water looks really low and the Westside portions that were bad are repaved but around Chalk Hill is still crappy.

anyone need a ride up from san diego? i got room for a human and a bike.

yep - went wine tasting several weeks ago and westside road is repaved
.

First time racing this venue and for that matter my first Half Distance race so super excited about this. Plus a bonus is I get to go off in an early wave so cooler temps for bike and run

The Summer dam at Johnson beach has been installed. Water is at normal summer levels. The course can be swam without walking as long as you use a high elbow catch.

If anyone knows of any good dinner places the night before (carb friendly!) give us a rec - I’ll be there.

Anybody need a ride down from Canada?

Ass, grass or something fast.

I’m riding the course Friday if you want me to check out anything specific let me know.

I was just curious was all. Had heard they repaved some of the bad spots on Westside (or was it eastside?) and that they were really nice. Chalk Hill is still a mess from what I’ve heard. Ive done it twice before, so it was more just out of curiosity. If you find anything worth mentioning out there, let us know!

Velotranz is transporting bikes from PHX $250 and San Deigo $170, includes bike loaded ride ready and a bag. I will take your bike to the swim start also.
Same price for the full. I still have room. Limited space.

bueller? bueller?

Rode the majority of the course, everything except for the last 5 ish miles. Westside road, the weird concrete patches section has been paved and now rolls really well. Some bottle launchers elsewhere on the course, like coming down Chalkhill, nothing too gnarly. The one weird area is taking the left at Faught and Chalkhill, have to go up hill mile 49 or so, currently there is a steel plate with asphalt that is right in the middle of the road. Not terrible but just adds another degree of difficult to that turn. Also, Airport Blvd. overpass has some construction going on on it, saw it as I turned off the course. Looks like there could be some chunks missing on that area too. I think that’s all I got for recon. Water is in the river, about the same as last year and will probably be wetsuit legal, roughly same temp as last year too. Weather looks to be about mid 80’s and wind has been starting early around there too. Should be another great year.

Glad they’ve done some maintenance!

I’m very late to the party but let me know if you have (or know of someone who has) an extra room.
