Yup…
This really isn’t new though. The cost of veterinary medicine has been somewhat tied to the hip of the rising cost of human medical supplies for at least 4 decades and probably more for the reasons cited in the article. Well before BO started smoking or thinking he’s got game.
Actually it is new. Obamacare jacked up medical device taxes with a very large sweeping stroke. Google some of the things that were considered medical devices in the initial “well thought out” plan. “Our way at any cost” is a great way to run a country into the ground.

OK, but not with respect to rising veterinary medical costs (and fees) as a result of rising human medical costs which was my point. It’s changing now as more research is being done on animal-only drugs, but there was a time in the not too distant past that animal-only drugs were mostly for parasites. Surgical and medical supplies were almost exclusively designed for human medical use. Veterinarians were not charged less just because they were examining, diagnosing, and treating conditions in animals. As human medical costs escalated, so followed veterinary costs and fees, but rarely at the same rate of increase.
Didn’t we already have this thread? Or are you like my manager and assume that no one is doing anything when you aren’t here?
Why do they hate veterans?
Its time they pay their fair share.
People are stupid and they piss me off. I can’t even afford to have a pet anymore. 30-40 years ago you ended up paying 10-15$ a year for vet bills. If your dog was sick, broke a leg, whatever it would cost you 50$. Now that people have turned their pets into their own precious little snowflakes every time I walk into the vet’s office it costs me 100-200$.
People deserve what they get and soon everyone with a pet will be forced to carry health insurance on them…because they are idiots.

Didn’t we already have a thread about global warming?
If you want your dog to be healthy do this:
http://www.ijreview.com/2013/03/39809-michelle-obama-american-dogs-need-balanced-diets-exercise-too/
It will save you tons of money. You can’t say the govt is not giving you options.

I don’t have such low self esteem that I feel the need to have absolute control over another animal. So I don’t have a dog.

Oh, wait. Never mind.
I’m sick, irritable and had to come to work anyway…people suck, stupid people suck worse. I’m glad you love you’re dam precious unique, one of a kind, snowflake of a dog, but when you’re love of your dog costs me money…you suck.

This opens an interesting analogy. Are we the animals that our low self esteem President wants to absolutely control?

I don’t have a dog (see above).
I have cats. When they get sick I take them out back and shoot them, then get another cat.
.22 rounds are cheap.

Yes.

That was a “Global” you as in “All you people that believe your pets deserve the same level of treatment as a human”. You don’t strike me as the type of person that would pay 20K for cancer treatments for your cat

This is the way we did it on the farm and if I have to will do it again. The last dog I had put down cost me almost 400$. Seriously, WTF!? 400$ to make the animal go to sleep. Like you said bullets are cheap. Again, you used to be able to take your pet to the vet and they would go sleepy for very cheap. Not anymore, now it’s some sterilized room with 3M dollars worth of equipment, specialized drugs that cost tons of money and a “Specialist” to do the deed. Like I said, people suck.
They should have “My pet is a unique snowflake that I believe is actually my child” Vet places and “My pet is a pet” Vet places.

I am veterinarian. I can tell you it is not the cost of our services that is the problem, its the products and equipment. I charge $38.50 for a wellness exam. $38.50! That’s like a half tank of gas or a dinner at Applebees. So, to everyone on this thread bitching about the cost, don’t blame me! What is expensive is the tests we have to run, the equipment we have to buy, and the drugs we sell.
For example, I had to buy a $120,000 xray machine a few years ago. 3.5% is a chunk of change especially when your fees are low. So, we have to charge appropriately to pay for the thing. We take the life of the machine, divide by years, # of films and come up with a price that will have the machine paid off by the time it depreciates into nothing. Obamacare slapped a 3.5% tax on our equipment purchases so the costs will increase.
That’s only one way how Obama care affects pet owners. I’d be happy to tell of more. By the way, my health insurance company, New York Life decided to walk away from health care due to Obamacare. They said so in a letter to me. So, effective at the end of the year, my family will no longer have health insurance. We had a great plan with a great company and no complaints. Thanks a lot Obama.
I’m not blaming vets. See the thread title.
sorry about your insurance. I think you’re mistaken, though. If you like your plan you’ll get to keep it, and it will be cheaper. Obama said so.
Duffy- didn’t mean to imply you were blaming vets for the costs but the overall costs of vet med is sore subject to me. People are constantly complaining to me that I’m too expensive but fail to see the whole picture.
