I drove up to Madison to ride the course with a small group yesterday. We started from the Sheraton parking lot and midway through the first loop, I noticed my cleat was loose. I checked it and two of the three bolts had come loose and were now missing. I decided to continue and hope for the best. I vaguely recalled someone mentioning that Verona had a bike shop. When we got back there, the person at the gas station told us where to go. When I walked in, the place was pretty busy but the owner basically stopped what he was doing and fixed the cleat in about 5 minutes. Very cool.
Dan Atkins; Atkins Bikes; great shop.
Dan is great. Low key, but he’s the third generation in that shop. No flash but a really good man. Great CS also.
True story: last year when i told him i was going to be a sag wagon driver for IMWI he handed me over a pile of tubes, tires, and a valve extender. He did not ask me to pay for them. He just asked that i tell anyone who needed something that it was courtesy of Atkins Bike Shoppe, and that i return what i did not hand out.
I go to Dan instead of Willy, Machinery Row, Crono, etc. because his word is good and you almost always deal with him one-on-one.
Thanks for the info. I will try him out next time.
