I’ve been trying to find a decent race tire for under $50 that comes in 20-22mm widths. Veloflex Corsa is the right size, and price($40 in many palces).
So what do you guys think, is it likely to be as disastrous in aerodynamics as the Record? Any chance it rolls as quickly as the Record?
They make wonderful tires. They are the same “ladies” that handmade vittoria’s before they moved production to Asia. If you buy into the Bontrager Oval, then you need to go with that, but if not, you will find Veloflex to be equal or better than other “open tubulars”. Great road feel. Record is just a thinner version, not needed unless you are focusing on a single hill climb record.
Yes, effectively what that chart demonstrates is that as “effective wind speed” increases(i.e. you go faster) the advantage in rolling resistance of the VF record gets smaller. By the time you have an effective wind speed of 27mph(your speed + wind speed), you would be better off on a Conti 23mm than a VF record.
I think whats most surprising about that chart is the Zipp tires performance.

Where is this chart? (I think I had saved it on my computer a while back, but can no longer find it).
I just realized that I have the Veloflex Carbon and not the Record…
I also just sold my wheels and got some new ones and the rear disc came with a Conti 19mm Competition so I want to check that out as well.
