Has anyone had this surgery?
How soon after did you resume normal training?
I am 50 and train slightly over 7 hours per week. I am trying to plan the surgery to minimize disruption to my training schedule.
any help would be appreciated…

YOu shouldnt anything. I was told nothing for 4 to 6 weeks. Micro surgery ya know. I did start swimming and surfing after the incision healed. i did run or bike for about 5 weeks.
I was post vas for about ten years when I had my reversal!
WOW. Go Stephen!!!
if you are 50, why do you need vasectomy???
.
obviously he’s been getting younger action.
If you are a northern european with dark hair and of moderate height, I’d be happy to save you the trouble.
wakka wakka

just need some clarification…how soon after the surgery did you swim?..
are you saying you started to run 5 weeks after surgery?..
and did it work? : )
as a person on the other side of the knife, i wouldn’t recommend any strenuous exercise for at least 4 weeks. The no-sex rule is typically for 6 wks.
It really depends on the type of repair-- vaso-vasostomy (sewing the 2 ends of the vas together) or vaso-epididymostomy (sewing the vas back into the epididymis).
The vaso-epi is much more tenuous and you should avoid the strenuous stuff for longer.
Biking will likely be uncomfortable for the full 6 wks.
just be up-front with the doc and find out the type of repair, number of sutures, etc. and it may give you a better idea of when to return to exercise.
swimming is probably fine after a week or two.
good luck with the repair.
I love the user name.
You can expect major disruption to your training schedule sometimes after 10.5 months post surgery!
So, you want to reverse a vasectomy? why would you do that? more kids? Don’t we have too many of those on this planet as it is? Why at age 50 produce more? Your training is more important.
Those sutures were absorbable type. I remember surfing and swimming about 7 days after. I started running and riding about 4 to 5 weeks out.
Funny thing is, my reversal didnt initially work. Went to the semen analysis lab about every six weeks for a test, did that for 12 months. No swimmers at all. After about a year, we gave up, decided to live with having two daughters and NO son. About 3 years after the reversal, BAMM! Wife isnt feeling well. I knocked that woman up again for the third time. And yes, it was a BOY. I was 42, wife was 39…We are now the proud parents of George the fifth…AKA,Bubba…
My advice, if you do the reversal and really want it to work, dont do any biking or running for about 8 weeks.
I had my reversal in August, week after Timberman - took a solid 4 weeks off of everything, but I did do some walking during that time - kind of fun doing that with my wife. My end-of-September I did a sprint and felt great, started training 6+ hours per week, then raced in Clearwater but had minimal bike time under me - didn’t want to push it. It was hard to sit around and not do anything, plus you can’t have sex either, so I was in total limbo with two of my favorite activities. Waiting 4 weeks was fine considering it cost me $6K for the operation - there went my Guru Crono! Just think of it as forced recovery and enjoy it - don’t push to hard even after the 1st month - last thing you’d want to do is screw uo this given the cost and what you are trying to do - eventaully have a family - it training that important? I just had my final semen analysis - put the results on the the fridge: 45+ million boys, with 50$ swimmers and super forward progression of 3! Best of luck…Chris
