Vasectomy Recovery time

I looked up previous threads and they were all pretty old. I just got snipped an the 20th and I think I must have lucked out. No noticeable swelling and I don’t even need any ibuprofen today. I’m still scared of trying to get back to training too soon. I’ve heard 2 weeks before light running and 4 for biking, what about swimming. I’d expect that if I used leg bouys and just pulled I could get a few swims in this week. Would that be a bad move? I’m already sick of sitting on my ass.

I came back too early(3-4 days light running and riding) and it was not pretty. Spare you the details but it ended up 6 weeks off. To add insult to injury we started practicing abstinence about the same time.

Give yourself 2 weeks. No sense messing around with that area. You don’t want to go back and have more work done.

Take it easy, give it two weeks. I rode about 10 days later but overall you dont want to increase blood pressure.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll have to find some creative ways to use the extra time.

I got mine done on a Thursday and was light running by Monday. Biking I waited an additional week.

jock strap, jock strap, jock strap. Your shit should be snug and tight. If you think righty whities are good enough you’re mistaken, even just walking around after that it just better in a jock strap.

Make sure you wait for your lab results before going bareback!
I am booking my 3rd vasectomy!, and yes I made sure I waited for the lab results each time.

It just keeps healing back? Way to have wolverines testicles.

Four weeks before resuming biking seems overly conservative. Two weeks should be enough, then start back gradually.

you can handwash some loads to clean out your pipes…

Had mine on a Thursday and rode a recumbent stationary that Monday. Ran Wednesday, rode a real bike indoors Thursday, and rode 50 outside Saturday which was 9 days after. I had zero swelling and didn’t use ice but had that kicked in the biscuits feeling for about 2 weeks. My biggest mistake was trying to not wear the jock strap too soon. I went a day without it about a week after and that was not a good day. Put it back on for another at least week or so and was fine. As long as they were still I had no issues. Just listen to your body and you’ll know whether you’re ready.

Had mine on a Friday with the “no needle/no scalpel” technique from the guy that pioneered it. Took ten minutes, had no swelling to speak of. Wore tight Speedos for a few days. Was running by the following Wednesday and on the bike by Friday. That was 3 years ago. So glad I did it.

Six weeks minimum. Bottom line. True story. Riding MIGHT be one thing, running is quite another.

Came back in 7 days and grew a third testicle. Some pooled sperm thing. Nasty. Hurt like hell. But I know guys who came back in 2 days. Just depends on has brassy your balls are I guess.

My recovery took 6 weeks longer becaus I rushed, FWIW.

I waited 10 days before riding. 14 days before running. And if you have stitches, I wouldn’t swim before I had them removed.
Listen to your doctor. Being a bit on the conservative means you have a couple of extra days of rest. Getting back to the training too early may mean weeks of rest instead…

I was called into work two days after the operation (we had a triple murder). Although all I was doing was sitting for 16 hours, after three days I was in a lot of pain and it set back my recovery 2 weeks. Take the time now and you will be glad in a few weeks. When it comes to our junk, you don’t mess around with that shit.

hah, I went in on 12/20 also. Was planning 1/1 return, but low intensity. I may sneak in an easy swim before that though.

I think I waited a week before I got back on a spin bike. No problems. If it feels good do it.

Timely thread. I’m going to be scheduling mine very soon. Need to wait 'til after the 1st because (1) I’ll likely be moving my mom into a new apartment, so lots of lifting and moving, and (2) I’ve got the next 10 days off work, and don’t want to miss the riding time. Of course it also means my health plan year rolls over, so I’ll be paying the full deductible early in 2014…

Thank you for that nugget of advice. Laughed my ass off at that.
