I know it’s ugly. I’m not a strong swimmer - just over 30’ for a 70.3.
What can I fix?
I’m not going to comment on form but I will note that one thing that helped me quite a bit in ensuring I am doing what I think I’m doing is putting a bathroom size mirror directly beneath me so I can see exactly what my elbow is doing, see exactly where I’m finishing my stroke, and seeing exactly where my catch begins.
Definitely worth the $50 or whatever at home depot
I wonder if a coach will get involved here.
That’s not me.
I was a D1 swimmer, however.
I do use a vasa.
Eyeballing it…
It doesn’t look like you are swimming at all.
I know that you don’t need to do the above water recovery on a Vasa.
But I sometimes do it anyway.
I think your Vasa “stroke” might explain why!
It looks like you are swimming backwards, in the recovery stage of the stroke. It is as if a wave is passing through your arms and flicking you backwards.
That’s not good!
I think it leaves you arms starting the power part of the stroke in the wrong place.
The power part of the stroke should start with you hands further in front of you.
Also I think your arms should pass closer to the center of your body.
And i think the arms should be deeper.
I have been swimming pretty decently this year with large numbers of pool workouts being replaced by Vasa training.
I do think you need to have decent pool form and then try to imitate that on the Vasa.
It’s probably difficult to have bad pool form and try to correct it on the vasa
Similarly not a coach. But I think you’re breaking your wrist too much, and probably thinking about hands first then pulling with bicep and then contributing from your lats. That’s almost opposite of ideal. Hand and forearm should be a unit and as much as possible pushing the water back, and all the power you want coming from your lats.
When I’m on the vasa, it’s hard to get any rotation but I do try to think about using my core to be relatively rigid and straight up and down, and that helps with the torso to paddle connection.
I like the idea of the mirror and may do that as well.
ditch the head band, use goggles instead
