Trying to keep my travel questions separate to increase the chances of getting responses (so apologies for flooding the LR!).
In Vancouver 2 nights as part of a whirlwind Rockies trip. Arrive on a Thurs 29 July, prob get to downtown hotel around 4pm. Have that afternoon/evening, the full Friday 30 July and then Saturday 31 July morning (before heading to Tsawwassen ferry terminal to Van Island). Trying to fit in as much as I can. Some things that have popped up from random browsing:
Stanley Park (bit of an obvious one) - may not have the rental car at this point. Note the shuttle bus is now scrapped. Can you rent bicycles nearby and is this a feasible way of seeing it? Would bicycle rental places stay open late in summer to maybe permit my mate and I to ride around after getting to hotel 4pm ish? This may dictate what day we do Stanley. What about early bike rental hours? Perhaps we could do it the day we leave.
Capilano Bridge and Grouse Mountain - somewhere on ST (can’t find the post) said Capilano was overrated and pricey and there was another one nearly as good and maybe even free? But I figured we could combine it with Grouse Mountain for the lookout and skyride. Considering the ziplining also. One thing is I’m also thinking of doing ziplining later in Whistler so could be doubling up for no real added benefit (maybe Whistler is much better??). For those who may have done ziplining, would they let you film it on a camcorder or do they have liability issues? If not where do you leave your valuables? If we didn’t have the rental car then I thought a novel way of getting there was via the seabus and 236 bus. Would be nice to come back over Lion’s Gate bridge but the nice direct route bus (247) doesn’t seem to run in the middle of the day. Locals with bus knowledge chime in!
Gastown - Is this just architectural type attraction?
Chinatown/Dr Sun xxx xxx Chinese Gardens.
Granville Island - is this just another open market place or a cut above?
Lookout - considering it’s open late if it’s near our ultimate hotel doesn’t seem too much to go up there.
Robson Street - apparently this is the street in Vancouver?
BC Place - was this where opening ceremony was held? Seems to be right next to Chinatown so if we went there I wondered whether it was worth popping your head in? Just another stadium? Seems relatively close to Granville island also?
Welcome other suggestions, as well as what might be best to try and cram in the first night to ease the burden on the full day.
Thanks, and goodnight (it’s late here in the land of Oz)
