Using GPS (Timex Bodylink 59551) in Europe

I am planing to get a Timex 59551 (speed-distance-HRM) I will (try to) use in Eastern Europe (Romania)!

Anyone with experience regarding the satellite connection in that area?

A GPS will work anywhere in the world provided the signal isn’t blocked by mountains, buildings, etc.

based on gps’ original purpose, i’d say most of eastern europe has excellent coverage.

Expanding on what Eric said…

GPS works equally well at any spot on the entire globe. The swarm of 24 satellites covers the whole marble. As long as you can see the sky, you are set.

I have contacted TIMEX UK & TIMEX Hungary reagrding this and waiting now for their reply!

TIMEX US stated basically the same you guys did… but I know people with automobile mounted GPS systems not working in some areas of RO! (thanks to the guys from trinewbies forums)

I will be training backthere (RO) starting next sping and will be trying this race: http://www.surmont.ro/Clubul/English/Triatlon/Balea-2000/balea_en.html

When you say “not working” what do you mean? Can’t get a signal? The reason I ask is that many GPS’s with maps only cover certain areas of the globe. But the actual signal has nothing to do with where you are (again, other than solid objects that may block the signal). That Timex GPS–not having maps–will work anywhere.
