I took my road bike to a new LBS for tuneup last week. They ran new cables and housing, added a new chain and a few other small fixed
i was on a group ride today and at one of the sprint points the chain dropped off front crank. I kneed the handlebar real hard, lucky I didn’t wreck or hurt someone else. Knee is real swollen but I’ll live.
Upon closer inspection I have a mountain bike chain (x1) instead of SRAM Force 22 like the rest of my bike. There’s a bent tooth on the crank now and every time the chain goes over that tooth it skips
Do you guys ever use a mountain bike chain on your road bikes? Seems like something they shouldn’t have done.
I’m tempted to call the LBS and ask them to swap the chain and fix the crank … What would you do?
I’d ask for a full refund and the proper chain installed for free.
Tell them to replace the chainring too.
I use SRAM XX1 and SRAM Red/force chains interchangeably.
I buy whatever I can get the best deal on.
So sometimes I have an XX1 chain on my road bike, or a Red chain on my MTB.
If it is for 11 speed it is fine.

That’s kind of what I was expecting. Are there any spec differences between the two?
I can’t find out what’s different between the two.
If the chains are interchangeable, then I don’t want to make a big fuss. If they aren’t, I’m going to ask bike shop to pay my hospital bill
I asked a guy who works at SRAM before I bought my chains- He said they are basically the same.
