Any refs on board, would this be legal or fall under outside assistance or something similar?
I’m considering leaving T2 with 2 Fuel Belt Flasks for a 2 loop run course. Taking one with me, and stashing the other one on the side of the road to be picked up on lap 2 of the run course. Would this be legal assuming I don’t cut the course to drop off or pick up? Could it be considered abandoning of equipment?
“Not that the Official is looking to ruin your day but communities & neighborhoods complain about our race trash all over the area.”
Or at least go back and pick it up. I’ve had plenty of races where I dumped off water bottles, hats, gloves, etc. but I am always conscientous (and cheap!) enough to go back and pick it up after I finish the race. I’ve never been assessed a penalty for doing this but I know that it is technically illegal.

Ummm, is there a rule that says you can’t carry two flasks with you, or you just would rather not???
It is improper and is a violation of 7.2 Placement of Equipment, which reads:
7.2 Placement of Equipment.
All participants shall place equipment only in the properly designated and
individually assigned bicycle corral and shall at all times keep their
equipment confined to such properly designated areas. Any violation of this
Section shall result in a variable time penalty.
Mark L pretty much hit it on the head. (does this mean you get a “get-out-of-jail free” card?) The fundamental policy themes are consistently – "what creates an unfair advantage? and “what’s available (supportwise) to one, must be available to all”. Abandoned equipment also comes into play with the issue of what assurances are there the item will be picked up?
