At most recent race, almost overheated…
Why was I wearing that swim cap? was it b/c I think it’s a rule?

Yes its a rule and because its easier to spot someone if they go under.
It’s a rule–probably to help designate which wave you’re in or to identify you for race pictures like IMNA events (oops, NASports).
But they sure do slip off easily once you get going, especially when it’s hot, ya know?
I think it’s cool to have the orange cap wave go in front of me so they all look like the course markers while swimming

From the USAT Rule book:
**4.7 Official Equipment. **If provided by race management, a swimmer shall wear the proper official swim cap corresponding to his wave. The penalty for an infraction of this rule is a variable time penalty. For safety reasons if no official cap is provided, all swimmers should wear their own brightly colored swim cap.
Do you wear a swim cap training? A friend of mine used to feel like he was overheating on the swims during races, but found once he started wearing one to every training session, it didn’t phase him on even the hottest days racing.
problem i have is the cheap kind that races use won’t fit on my big noggin, and it does come off ! thinking about rigging up a chin strap or something…

geezus i know. I wonder if some of the race directors have no clue whats going on. The bouys on the lifetime fitness course are green and all the women have green swim caps in a time trial start. I never know where i am going on that course.
Does that mean that USAT doesn’t want those of us they put in black, blue or green caps to be seen when we “go under”
