Long course duathlon that is. SO the 12 people that this affects can rest easy now, you other 2000 or so waiting for the Short course tri nationals, will just have to hold your horses. I checked the USAT forum, and they said that they want to have a race 3 months before the worlds, June or July they said. I have news for them, the first week of July is less than 2 months, and if they held it the first week of June it would only be 10 or 11 weeks before we would have to actually leave to get there. This is really going to be a hardship for those that have to book vacation time, and the last minute flight and accomidations are going to be through the roof on these two races. (The qualifying race and the Worlds in Switzerland) This is really becoming an embarrassment for them, so what’s the deal??? Anyone got any idea what’s going on here???
Perhaps we can talk ITU into allowing us to hold our (US) Nationals in conjunction with the World Championships. Or maybe we should have them in Hawaii-- same outfit that put on the last championship race already has the course set for memorial day weekend-- and then folks could really rack up some frequent flyer miles.

USAT is so lame, I mean, if you race both long and short course your season is mostly set. Why don’t they set two qualifiers; early warm weather locale and june iffy weather place. if it is iffy weather we just have to pick up our race packs… Ha Ha Ha

I thought short course nationals was going to be held after worlds and that there would be a special worlds qualifier race in the Spring. The post over at USAT doesn’t say whether or not the June/July race will be the national championship or just a worlds qualifier.
They have their own forum over there, and if you’re lucky you might get a response. Once again at the Team USA meeting at Worlds they assured us they would have things settled by the end of the month, and once agin they don’t. I’d consider it a major accomplishment if they got a date and a venue before 12/31/05. But given their recent track record, I’m not convinced it will happen.
So educate me. For someone who has done a grand total of 1 du (3.1/19/3.1) can I just enter the event or do I have to qualify? I figure I’ll be able to do pretty well. By April I expect my 10k time to be in the 41-42 minute range and I shouldn’t have any trouble on the bike (my specialty - should be averaging ~24.5-25.5 for 90 minutes).
yes it’s official…new orleans in 2006. police can’t wait. hotels offer giant discounts for slightly foul smelling rooms. usat will collect $700 for top 10 to go to worlds. pem (bill the burke) has the awards cermony already planned for a hotel currently being bulldozed…but don’t worry his porsche is already paid for with the $200 entry fee (price of gasoline is causing the increase in fees he claims).

Are you basing that information on the newspaper article (pre-Katrina)on the PEM website? Do you have some insider information? Please tell me USAT isn’t that stupid to put 2 national championships in NO in April in the aftermath of Katrina.
You don’t have to qualify. You can just show up.

It’s going to be in Grand Prairie, Texas. And it appears that it will be a conflict with another big duathlon held on the same day. Are there really enough duathletes around that an A race and Nationals can be on the same day?? Did anyone ask this question at USAT when they scheduled this? COme on Mike Plumb, what’s the scoop here, you are the duathlete guru there…Or is it now that you have taken down one of the greats in triathlon, you are abandoning your roots…(-:

If some bitches loud enough they’ll change the date. That’s what happened with short course nationals this year. They were supposed to be on July 8th in KC, but somebody complained that it was conflicting with a regional championship. The other rumor was that PEM complained because it was the same weekend as NYC Tri. Well we all know what happened with that new August date they picked.
