They should be organizing an army of triathletes to help in Gulf…I may quit triathlon over this.
They could outfit us with special oil-absorbing compression gear and we could just swim relays out and back to the Deepwater Horizon.

I’m boycotting water! I mean, what year does water think it is? By now, you’d think with so much experience, it would be able to handle a little bit of oil. Water is like 2/3 of the world and yet humans have to do their work! I’ll bet there are more fish than humans . . what the hell are THEY doin? I’m boycotting fish, too. I’ll never eat another one. Let’s see how they like THAT!

They may as well. It’s not as if we’ll have a lot of races left in this region to be training for. ![]()

Are they canceling them cause of the spill?

Not yet so far as I know, but the oil is only just beginning to reach the Florida beaches now, and I saw the first mention of swimming advisories in the paper this morning. I’m hoping for the best, but trying to prepare myself mentally for the worst. In particular, a lot of my planning for the next few years was based on the assumption my “A” races next year would be Gulf Coast and then IMFL '11, but both races would appear to be in jeopardy if it’s really true that this problem could hang around for years. I may end up doing the 70.3 in Orlando instead–which I’ve never done before–if I can figure out how to deal better with that kind of heat and humidity.
As I mentioned in a post on the Main Forum, the RD for the Beach Blast in September has already sent out an email talking about alternate plans. As a last resort, that race will become a duathlon, and I was planning to enter the duathlon division anyway, so that will work out okay. The duathlon will just be more competitive, which is fine with me.
