USAT Board Voting

I received email solicitation to vote for specific candidates through my tri club. I thought this wasn’t supposed to happen? Did I miss something? Can someone point me at the new rules or give me a brief synopsis? Thanks.

What tri club do you belong to?

Silicon Valley Triathlon Club

What election might that be? AFAIK, the USAT BOD is still in the penalty box and there’s been no talk or rumor that I’ve heard about an impending election. The Southwest regional elections are taking place now and most of the candidates are from the S.F. Bay area. Maybe that’s what you received? There are 8 candidates and 8 positions so the result is set. The number of votes received will be a barometer of interest in the region.

You’re correct; what I received is for the SW region.

I think you just have a couple of club members trying to stir some interest in the Regional elections. I don’t see any foul play even though they’re my “opponents”. This election is a formality, not a contest. If people vote, it shows us that they have an interest in what’s going on but the board is already formed since we’re the only ones that stepped up to do it.

I think the answer to your initial question is that there probably aren’t any restrictions on campaigning and certainly none on the club’s involvement. Races and tri clubs are the two best places for candidates to woo potential voters. Gaining the endorsement of a club would certainly boost a candidate’s effort and what’s so wrong with that? The club isn’t really part of USAT; just a loose affiliate.
