USAT and United Airlines

I have been hearing conflicting information regarding the redeeming of USAT bike passes that are given out with the first 10,000 memberships each year. Either United is no longer honoring any of these passes and they are worthless or that they will allow for all outstanding passes to be redeemed but will discontinue the program after this year. So what is it the former or the latter. Thanks.

USAT is no longer giving out United vouchers. I beleive they have switched to America West. However, if you have a valid United voucher, United is honoring them with no problem. Made it out to the Kona Half and back in May with no issues. In fact, the lady at the counter in Kona actually reminded me to find my voucher so my bike could fly for free.

We just got back Muncie Endurathon. We left Austin, TX & Indianapolis; the Austin desk said 2 bags, 2 bikes… ok. You’re checked through… I didn’t ask. The Indianapolis desk, said “2 bages, 2 bikes… ok… Isn’t it nice that you’re not paying for bikes anymore… You’re checked through…” I didn’t ask any questions… just went on my merry way, didn’t show a pass… nothing… Emailing United is on my to do list…I’m curious more than anything, b/c quite frankly, if it’s free, that’s $160 savings each way for us compared to other airlines.

This all depends on the bitchiness level of the person in the counter. I flew to CDA and the gal in the counter had a HIGH bitchiness level and charged me the $80 even though I had a United coupon (although expired).

Here’s one on Ebay
