Here are some shots from today’s prolog.

For the race shots, I was just before the first uphill, about 15 seconds into the course. At times the racers were only a foot or so away from me.

Holy seat choices! haha. Cool pics of the bikes!

Is it just a weird shadow on cadel’s disk? It looks almost like an easton branded saran wrapped wheel. They even left the cadence sensor on. Or am I way off?

The ‘saran wrapped’ look may be due to the fill flash I was using. It is a funky pattern based on the carbon layup.

And yes, the left chainstay has some sort of sensor zip-tied to it.

Those P4 look like the rider’s training bikes. Some of those bikes are built on '09 frames.

I love the spectators across the road. Especially the lady with the straw hat in the chair. She looks like she is watching a parade with her son in it. So proud.

I’m betting the team started the season on old CTT bikes and these eventually made their way to the SC in CO and are used for lower priority USA events.

I could be wrong.

Thanks for posting the photos, nice to see the boardman out and about!

I was watching it on TV yesterday and told my wife “look at that dude with the camera he’s getting some amazing shots up close”. You could see your flash going off when they passed you. Thanks for posting.

interesting that Garmin is apparently hauling around LeMond Revolution trainers for warm-up. I guess you can do that when you don’t have to cram everything into the trunk of your car.

I picked a nice spot with the rock in the background and sat down about an hour before the race started to stake out my spot since I didn’t know just how crowded it would be.

In the end there were probably 10 different photographers who cycled through that corner and took photos within a few feet of me. I was having an overload of bike envy and camera envy as the Pro’s would show up with $30k in glass and drop it next to me (is that a 400/2.8? Can I borrow it for a few years?)

I forgot to tivo the live recording, but did manage to see myself once in the rebroadcast on Vs when they followed Levi out of the start gate.

The Cadel shot I put in the post above is taken with a 16mm (24mm full frame equiv), so he is about 2’ or so from my camera. There were a few that cut it even closer. I just kept shifting closer and closer to the edge of the road with each close call.

Those are good-looking bikes. I like the yellow inside edge of the fork with the orange hubs.

3T is a brand very used by the cervelo team but never for the wheels. I guess the Mavic ones must be very good

You taking photos of today’s stage as well?

Here is a stupid question from someone new to all of this: Are aero helmets not allowed?

Another stupid question: Is that because this is a prologue vs. a time trial?

I wish, but my day job is going to prevent me from following the race from anything other than my tv. I took the day off to watch this stage. The spot where I was sitting was only 4 miles from my house.

almost everyone used an aero helmet.

a prologue is just a short time trial

Looked like standard helmets in the linked photos. I plan to watch the event on the DVR tonight, so I’ll shut up now.

Funny, They don’t look that fast in the pictures…

note “pre race”

Ahhhh . . . OK.
