DESPERATE!! Just unpacked my bike and the airline smashed the rear triangle of my Canyon Speedmax cf slx (s) frame. Took to a bike mechanic at a local shop to confirm my fears! My bike is done, to dangerotto try and ride. Flew in from Colorado no access to another bike.
*** Are there bikes to rent?
*** is there anybody out there with an extra bike? Frame is a canyon small. Previous bike was a cervelo p2 size 51.
*** if there are no bikes to be found, who can I contact at Ironman to try and defer?
Did you see the bike companies today during check in? Not sure if any do rentals. Might be worth asking around there tomorrow. Definitely see if any race officials have ideas.
Sadly the only triathlon dedicated shop in the area closed permanently about a month ago. Might have some luck closer to Bay Area. Not sure if local bike shops (who are mostly now corporate owned, like Trek) do rentals.
Just saw this on the FB group(s), too - looks like the athlete found a few options! Always great to see the community rally. Possible that he still needs something but glad he’s got options.
I love seeing the good in this world and especially in the triathlon community.
It’s never easy to loan out your bike to a complete stranger, but we also know how much time and energy goes into the training for these events.
For people to come together and make this happen for this individual is awesome to see.
