Upright position on road bike?

Looking for a road bike with a flat bar to use indoors on a trainer. Any suggestions? I’ve seen the Cannondale Quick. I’m looking for compact gearing in case I decide to eventually ride this outside. I’m limited to the upright position for the time being because of C-spine issues that have been exacerbated by riding in a low road position and on the aerobars.

Do you have a roadbike now? What have you tired already? Adding spacers, flipping the stem? shorter stem?

On my road bike, since I don’t race with it, it’s set-up pretty conservative with only mayeb a 2-3cm drop, compared to about a 17cm drop on my tri bike, though it’s a much longer reach, so its’ relative. The frame si probably 1 size too big… but i got in back in 1999, so what are you going to do.

I have a Roubaix, but even with the stem flipped and the taller headtube it’s too far forward. Sadly, I have to ride comletely upright in the wicked witch of the west position or I get left arm pain and numbness.

Giant make a CRX line of bikes equivalent to the Cannondales you are looking at. Wife’s had one for a few years, good quality alloy frame and carbon forks, 700c wheels so tires are easy to source.

If it is just a temporary thing for the trainer you could flip the stem and point it backwards to get the bars moved back about 20cm. Can also get an adjustable stem and angle it straight up. Sheldon Brown had a picture of his bike with 2 sets of bars (http://sheldonbrown.com/org/thorn/index.html) - normal + another on a stem extension.
None of is viable on the road but unless you really want a new bike it might get you through rehab phase and the adjustable stem can eventually get you back to normal.

Thanks–hadn’t thought about an adjustable stem. I"ll start there. It"s unclear if this is temporary. Not sure I will have neck surgery if it comes to that to keep riding.
Thanks also for the heads up on the Giant bike.

Just taking another look, the Giant CRX line has been renamed Cross City. My wife’s bike has an adjustable stem but looks like they’ve been replaced with fixed stems.
