Upgrading cervelo p2 components

I have a 2017 stock cervelo p2 that is di2 with assioma pedals and am looking for some budget friendly options to upgrade components. I am starting to slowly get back in shape and have some time to look for good deals on parts. I would be happy with used upgrades if the price and condition is right.

The main thing I want to change are the aerobars- looking closest at 3t Aduro(could buy new for about $400).
If I can find a p5 six fork I would change that out. Depending if I can find one will determine which brakes to go with.
Crankset. Open to ideas, want something 172.5 crank arm and 53/39.
Storage Options- looking for something to go on top tube such as a rubberized bento box. Would be open to other storage options.

Any ideas appreciated.

Not sure if this is a Want to Buy post or if a post seeking recommendations. If it is a WTB, then you might want to post a variation of this there with a “WTB” prefix.

If you are looking for recommendations, you hit on the major P2 gaps. It has a parachute for a cockpit, dirty cable routing, regular brakes in the wind, and a so-so crankset. So, these are my quick recommendations…
Reroute your rear brake cable to get it out of that side entry port
A good carbon cockpit. My favorite is the Tririg Alpha X (while on available and on sale)
Aero brakes for front and rear. Best are the Tririg Omega X. I would do aero brakes before retrofitting a P5 fork and hydro brakesThe crankset is not that horrible. But, look at an Ultegra crankset for some weight and appearance. Or, a SRAM carbon crank for even lower weight

I have P2 and love it. I would say get wheels first. You will be faster and it’s more fun to ride. After that, you can slowly upgrade little by little. Base and aero bars definitely have to go. I went with Profile Design Svet-R base bar and love it. Check this thread and you will get some good idea. Good luck!!!

Following this thread. I just built up a 2017 P2 with Di2 and since it was my first build I went basic with base bar and extensions, which are fine for now, but I’d love to know what others are doing for storage and other things.

Also Exxx - When you mention routing rear brake not using the side entry, do you suggest using Jagwire or something into the top entry box at the top tube and feeding it through there? I thought I saw that somewhere and I messed around with it a bit just to see if I could feed it, I wasn’t psyched with how the brake felt but I wasn’t using Jag either.

Storage Options- looking for something to go on top tube such as a rubberized bento box. Would be open to other storage options.
Any ideas appreciated.

If you are looking for an unusual aero advanced shape bento pack for your P2, we make the Speedpack 483D (and these are all made by us here in the usa, so no covid-19 supply chain disruptions), here is a photo of one mounted on a P2. Links to reviews and more photos (on instagram and fb) are in the signature below.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for recommendations on components to change.

Thanks for the link.

Why do you want 172.5mm crank arms?

Thanks. I will look closer at ir.

Why do you want 172.5mm crank arms?

I am comfortable with that length, and have experimented with different lengths over the years.

What’s the shortest crank arm you have tried?

I have 2018 p2 di2. I have aero wheels, 55 front 81 back vison wheels. I have routed rear brake cable thru frame at front to make it more aero. I have medium bento box on top tube. I have tri rig alpha x bars with tri rig omega x brake on front. I keep original brake on back because I think they give more stopping power than Tri rig. I have garmin vector 3 pedals, q rings installed on front crank. Only other thing I might change is crank at some point

Sounds like a nice build. I will keep those options in mind.

I have done this before and just did this again with a P3 (same frame and I bought frameset so same bike)

TriRig Alpha X or One
Magura or TriRig brakes (internal braking-I feel more comfortable with hydraulic brakes with that option but Magura availability is dwindling)
HED or Flo 6/disc
Torhans bento x (personally I pick the bento with the height that matches most closely the height of my stem plus any spacers)
Power2max with Rotor flow and aero chainring
Zipp aero skewer
Speed play pedals
Conti 5000 with latex
Components of your choice-for me, 1x etap saves money and looks slick (no blips or clicks so no wires!)

Appreciate this. Those are a lot of similar parts I was thinking about as well.

Some upgrades I have made to my 2015 P2, roughly in order of ROI (speed+comfort vs. cost+time):
Silca latex tubes
GP 5000 tires
Power2Max power meter
Flo 60/90 carbon clincher wheels
Xlab Versa 500 BTA / Garmin mount
Xlab Delta 400 / Aero Pouch 300 rear bottle + storage
Speedpack 483D bento
Speedplay Zero pedals
Tririg Omega X front brake
BBInfinite bottom bracket
Prosvet base bar
Di2

I also rerouted the rear brake cable (following some previous posts on this forum), using a Jagwire Road Elite Sealed kit to minimize friction. It was a PITA to install but works fine now that it is set up.

Thanks for the response.

Just finished upgrading my new 2019 P2…all that’s original are the brakes and saddle.

I upgraded it to Ultegra Di2
Replaced the cockpit with the Zipp Vuka Aero. (Yes a 5 port Di2 junction box fits in the hollow nose)
Upgraded the crankset to a Rotr 155mm crankset with a 53/38 chainring. (Mash for cash)
Threw on the Flo 60/90 set
Put on the X-lab superwing with dual holder on the back and the Xlab 500 BTA. I don’t do solids on the bike, so leaving the bento blank.
