Is anybody else besides me getting Channel 22, a Spanish Station from LA, instead of the regular Universal Sports feed? I was pretty pissed that my Vuelta a España recoding turned out to be a Telenovela. I called Cox Cable and they said, “oh, yeah, were are aware of that. Maybe the cycling race was delayed” You gotta be kidding. By the, I’m in Orange County, CA.
I got the same thing: Universal Sports used to be over-the-air digital channel 4.4 – but that is now airing the Spanish-language stuff (and not even interesting Spanish language stuff).

I got the same thing. Came home to watch the Vuelta and got some movie in Spanish. I get Universal Sports on Verizon Fios channel 464. Called Fios and they said 464 and 460 are out and expected back by 9:00 PM. Can’t help but wonder if it is somehow related to the fire. Still doesn’t explain why they would switch to Spanish programing (ironically its KWHY).
The last replay of the vuelta will be at 7:00 tonite, if that fails, I’ll check Universal online or at cycling tv
.
I watch Universal Sports on broadcast channel 4.4 and it’s showing the same Spanish channel. So it’s not the cable companies. Universal Sports doesn’t say a thing about this on their website. Several of my favorite radio stations were lost (without warniing) to musica en Espanol and this appears to be sickingly the same .
I think it’s:
- local
- not related to the fires
- not coming back
Please let me be wrong - at least about item 3.
Why again is English not the national language and thus what is required? Seems that banks and air traffic control world wide gets it…too bad our PC retards who get elected dont.
Because our media operate in a largely free market situation, and there is a demand for Spanish language programming that broadcasters are making a surpisingly good amount of money supplying.
There are telenovelas and Univision shows that draw more viewers than some English language network programming. And plenty of mainstream major company advertisers who dub English language commercials into Spanish and support the Spanish language programming.
Words of fear and ignorance. Congrats for packing all that into two poorly structured sentences.
English IS the National language.
And it’s don’t, not dont. Who’s the retard?

Same thing here. I think Universal Sports disappeared on Sunday, replaced by Spanish language programming. I’m in Ventura County, CA, with Time Warner Cable. The DVR menu still shows Universal, with the Vuelta scheduled for 9:00 this morning, but the listings don’t match what they are showing. Geez, it will be a major bummer in our household if Universal is gone permanently.

Wow. I guess there is nothing you won’t turn into a racist rant.
For the record, I don’t care if its Spanish or any other language, I just want to watch the Vuelta. I would be just as pissed if I was getting the Playboy Channel instead of Universal Sports.
English IS the National language.
Talk about ignorant - you are WRONG, there is no national language. Clinton had a chance and did not ratify it. Had he made the call to go and do it things right down to public schools would not need to print the rule books in as many as 50 languages (as they do in my local Dist. #205). Students and teachers would also be required to learn and teach English, as opposed to having kids speak only Spanish. Then wonder why it is that they just cant on average seem to get ahead of the folks who speak clear English.
Um, no - that is not racist as Spanish is not a race, nor is it specific to a certain nationality for that matter. Why is it however that for over 200 years people came to the US and the thing they did first was LEARN ENGLISH. You hear stories of all kinds of people trying so hard to learn English first thing when they got to our shores. Slaves for that matter were tried to be held back and slave owners tried to be sure that they could not read or write, and they fought and many died to learn the language.
And to that, try to go to France and see an English station, or have school class in English. Try that in any other nation where they DO have a national language. It is not at all racist, it is a fact that having no National Language costs the tax base billions in extra print, class, teachers and on and on and on…and the fact that the Vuelta is not on TV

.
And at the end of the day, even those folks who did learn English frequently enjoy hearing or watching programs in their original language that reflect their original culture.
When I was little, I remember going to grandma and grandpa’s on the weekend, and they’d frequently have the radio on and tuned into the Polish language news and music program. Assimilated as they were, they’d have been all over Polish language television as well if it had been available.

Whew! Thanks for the info. I was just checking the Universal website, but my internet connection is running incredibly slowly. Given the magnitude of the fires, I suppose the loss of Universal Sports is a pretty minor concern.
For the record, I don’t care if its Spanish or any other language, I just want to watch the Vuelta.
On the regular broadcast bands, digital has spawned lots of international programming. Most of them are grouped together. The Spanish stations are mostly in the 40, 50, 60 channel range. NBC has 4.1, 4.2, and 4.4. Channel 4 is still NBC programming. 4.2 was NBC weather and is now Telemundo. 4.4 was Universal Sports and is now another Spanish language station. NBC Universal owns the 2 Spanish language stations. It’s rather odd that they moved the Spanish stations to the other end of the spectrum so hopefully it is just a temporary thing due to the fires.
I would be just as pissed if I was getting the Playboy Channel instead of Universal Sports.
Me too but it’s Spanish language that’s the competition here in SoCal. I blame the drivers blasting charro music for the demise of KNAC just like I blame Contador for Lance not winning the tour. Bastards!

In 2008 I was in Austria, Italy, and Amsterdam. I had no problem finding English Language programming on TV at my hotels. Further I had no problem finding English speaking clerks, tollbooth attendants, petrol jockeys, etc.
Having TV stations broadcast in languages other than English has no impact on me. It costs me nothing. I just delete those channels from my guide just like the shopping channels.
That you can’t see the inherent racism in your comments is part of the problem. Your FoxNews facts without foundation don’t impress.

Amen. I hated seeing KNAC going away too. I went to see Marilyn Manson last week and wore my KNAC Last Shirt
By the way, I have no problem with another Spanish language station added to the line up but, channel 22 is ALREADY part of the line up. Why did we have to lose Universal, why not C SPAN or TBN or QVC?
In the end, I ended up watching the Vuelta online at Universal Sports. It was a two hour show and the coverage wasn’t bad at all.
By the way, I have no problem with another Spanish language station added to the line up but, channel 22 is ALREADY part of the line up.
NBC owns all of the channels involved. My guess is that the Spanish language channels got knocked out by the fire so they moved them temporarily. Probably lots more Spanish TV viewers than cycling fans. It does seem like deja vu all over again though.
For the record racism is a policy or program based on race ( affirmative action) or a belief that someone is superior based on their skin color or race. Prejudice would be a more appropriate term to use in this situation if you believe he has a dislike of someone based on the ethnicity.
