Universal Cycles - Legit?

Universal Cycles based out of Portland/Beaverton

I’ve been searching for some hard to find parts recently and they seem to have everything I’m looking for in stock. Given all the part shortages it almost seems too good to be true. Hence, does anyone have any experience buying from them? Thanks.

Yes.

I’ve bought a couple of things from them before. No issues.

Yes, great online store that’s been around a long time. They have always catered to less race oriented disciplines so may not be on a lot of Slowtwitcher’s radar but they are much more popular in the bike touring, fixed gear, and steel bike crowd.

My only complaint with them is they would only ship to Canada using Fedex tracked priority and it would cost a lot; this was years ago though, and would be a non-issue for Americans.

Thanks Clyde and Jason. Good info. I’ve actually been looking for some stuff for my bike packing rig that’s been hard to find. Off to order I go.

I actually have a few things in the shopping cart with them, waiting in the ok from the boss…

Another Yes
.

For sure. Goofy looking site but they have tons of stuff. Always get it to me quickly.

Definitely legit. They used to be in my neighborhood and were my go to for parts. They have a large warehouse and it was nice knowing exactly what they have in stock from their website. Sadly for me they moved to the other side of the city last year and is no longer convenient for in person pickup.

Absolutely. One of the best in my experience.

They are great, they have some amazing sales at times also. I just picked up an XTR Di2 rear derailleur and XT M8000 11-40 cassette for $380.

Yup, bought Shimano Hydraulic brakes from them a few months ago, and several other parts over the years.

One of the things I ordered was an 11-40 cassette as well, but the low rent SLX version.

Nothing but great experiences for a number of years. It was started by a bunch of mountain bikers. Did buy some great wheel builds from them. Very true builds out of the box and stayed that way. I’m expecting an order from them today.

Since Covid shipping with USPS, FedEx and UPS has been all over the board. It seems like Amazon is the only one you can set your watch by. This is a subject for another thread, ship times.

Thinking the exact same thing as you so I called the number and talked to a human a few months ago. They were the only people in the US with 160mm Shimano cranks. Ordered and it arrived at my door 3 days later, very impressed by them.

I’ve bought from them both online and in person. Always smooth dealings, no issues.
