Is there a brake pad that can be used for all carbon tubulars and machined alloy rims? If not what are the best brake pads.
No. Treat your expensive carbon rims with TLC - use separate pads specified by manufacturer.
Swiss stop yellow pads can be used on both aluminum and carbon rims. BUT it is a bad idea to swap wheels and not swap brake pads, bits of metal and other debris can be picked up on the pads when when used with the alu rims and then do damage to the carbon rims.
It probably take all of 10 minutes to swap out the brake pads when you change wheels.
Not to hijack this thread, but what about brake pads for carbon wheels that don’t scream every time you brake…any out there
.
I had some just cant remember the name, i think it was a bit of a compromises in braking performance of both wheels though and maybe the life of the rims
.
Cork doesn’t scream.
Always switch pads when going from aluminum to carbon. I generally have to adjust my brakes anyway and switching out the pads adds very little time.
Zipp has a brake pad they claim works for both. Like others have said though I’ve heard you should switch pads every time you switch wheels to avoid scratching the carbon rims with aluminum filings.
