So it is Ultraman Oz week here in Noosa and for the first time in UM racing Larry Ryan from the Ultra515 podcast in Vancouver is doing a live stream for the entire 36hrs of racing.I will be on screen for most of the weekend.
There are cameras all over the course not only the official ones but crew phone cams as well.
It is a fun chat between a bunch of Ultra mates with all tbe issues with amateur live vlogging.
Yep,wesuit swim and that swim time equals the two fastest Ultraman Hawaii swim times (within a few seconds)
Looks like he will finish today in around 6:30
Waking up very early to watch St George I thought I’d get the day one results on here for those interested.
No major surprises here at all with Tim Belstead taking out the day one honors after a great 10K swim leg, breaking the old UMOZ swim record by over 10 minutes. He put in a solid bike to lead second place Boris Bakouline by and hour and seven minutes. Splitting those two for the second spot overall for the day is our womens leader Kirsty Sheehan who holds a 19 minute lead over South Africa’s Nicola Matteus.
With only 30 min between 2nd and 11th overall it should make for an interesting day two on the bike as the race moves to the Sunshine Coast hinterland for a tough 275K on rough, hilly roads on what will be a wet and windy day.
Our live streaming this weekend is a bit of a test by UMOZ,in conjunction with Larry Ryan’s 515,The Ultra Podcast to see if it is possible to track races like these live and free for a segment of the Triathlon space that famously fails to track races in real time. 515 : The Ultra Podcast - Podcast - Apple Podcasts Barefoot Sports Timing - Entry System & Race Timing Solutions - Ultraman 2025

Day One: 10K Swim + 145K Bike
Late to the forum with so much packing up from today and setting up for tomorrow with a little sleep thrown in.
Just a brutal day out there today for the athletes as the wind and rain ended any chance of troubling the record keepers for the 275 kilometer ride. After years of getting accustomed to fast bike times on what is a tough but fair Day Two course,we watched as the previous days best time ticked by with the lead athletes still an hour or so away from the finish. Roadworks and slow tourist traffic on narrow wet roads just added to the problems with our visually impaired athlete, the legend that is John Domandl and his pilot crashing out for a second time leading to a broken collarbone and an ambulance ride to the local hospital. Lots of flats and mechanicals added to the chaos leaving six athletes either being pulled off the course, abandoning or missing the 12 hr cut-off. Weather also affected most of the electronics with communication going down for long periods meaning the timing system dropped out as did our YouTube feed. Fun times.
All seemed good in the end though as the crews and athletes all seemed happy, albeit very soggy and tired, and looking forward to the double marathon tomorrow.
At the pointy end of the field the two leaders remain the same with Tim Belstead leading the men and Kirsty Sheehan leading the woman while holding second place overall. Due to the construction zone causing delays and slow traffic afterwards the fields did bunch up and became something of a procession for the mid pack 25 or so athletes which in turn, lead to a carnival atmosphere out on course as the convoy of crew vehicles ended up hanging out together for most of the day .
So it is on to tomorrows run and the rain will continue… Barefoot Sports Timing - Entry System & Race Timing Solutions - Ultraman 2025
